Weird food cravings/aversions

I'm 6+5. When we first found out, I felt absolutely fine for the first 10 days, no nausea or aversions, I was naively thinking, I'm just going to carry on eating my healthy diet and everything will be grand. My usual day would be fruit & yoghurt with nuts/seeds, omelette or similar with salad or veg for lunch, fish for dinner usually, cereal bars or bananas for snacks, that kind of thing. I would normally try and have about 7 bits of fruit/veg a day prior to this pregnancy.

Fast forward to this week - oh. my god. I have become a pregnancy cliche. Waves of nausea at random times of the day. The mere thought of fish now makes me heave. I only know what I want to eat about 2 mins before I'm ravenous , fruit is fine but I'm not really fancying most veg. I just want CARBS. Today lunch was 2 slices of buttered toast followed by bananas & custard and an orange lolly. I just went specifically to the shop to get Weebabix (can't remember the last time I had it) and ate it like someone was going to steal it from me. I have no idea what I will eat for dinner as everything turns my stomach until I'm super hungry.

I'm actually starting to feel a bit guilty that I'm not eating enough 'good stuff' for the baby. I take a prenatal vitamin inc folic acid and extra vit D but I feel like I should be trying harder even though there is this most peculiar feeling of 'knowing' that I can't stomach something.

Please reassure me with your tales of mad food aversions/cravings and tell me my baby is not undernourished! When does this bit end again?!

It's totally normal! Just your body craving what it needs now - carbs. My morning sickness ended at week 16+3 and this week at week 18 I feel in eating much more of a balanced diet.
I found I was just best to eat what I wanted when I could. Don't beat yourself up.

All the best with your pregnancy and congratulations!

9 weeks here... Nausea but no sickness. I'm constantly grazing on fruit - grapes, blueberries, strawberries & raspberries! Loving carbs too and cheese was the order of the day a few weeks back.

Roasted red pepper currently makes me heave, just the smell alone is enough. Last time I couldn't eat carrots at all without feeling really sick! Strange as I was eating them again soon after delivery.

Couldn't bear fish either and I normally love it! Other than that aversions changed all the time (even the smell if apples or a particular hand soap). Some smells were just ridiculously over powering. Veg was quite hard if it was a bit slimey like leeks or steamed spinach and fruit went down much better, particularly oranges and fresh lemonade. Lots of protein helped- eggs and cheese and well as brown toast. It started getting better around 12 weeks and was only bad if I was really tired after about 16-18 weeks.

I'm 16 weeks today and currently eating egg mayo sandwich filler out of the pot with a spoon for my tea Confused which I'll no doubt throw up. I was the same as you, just eat whatever you want, when you want. You'll be fine :)

I was the same - I ate a very healthy diet. Then suddenly, I hated the taste and texture of fruit and vegetables. I would only eat beans on toast and pasta.

At 12 weeks, the horrible nausea tailed off - only the occasional moment now - and I am eating much better. You can try - I could eat sandwiches with salad in, and Pret's Lemon and Ginger drink was wonderful! But don't worry too much.

Oh I totally get what you mean!!

I'm 10+4 I'm crazing everything I hated beforehand, curry pot noodles Shock every kind of Crisps possible and this morning I woke up craving dippy eggs but unfortunately don't have any here Sad I'm addictive to eating plums atm too.

With my other 4 kids my craving were- shandy bass, pomegranates, cherries, toffee apples, and them white fire lighters Confused I wanted to eat them so bad but would settle for just putting my tongue on them lol so weird x

I like company, hate rain, am inherently a bit lazy and consider pizza to be overrated cheese on toast ...at 8 weeks I marched to Pizza Express, on my own, in the rain, to buy a four seasons pizza and doughballs, which I ate with my hands at my desk in less time than it took the rest of my team to get back from buying their (our) usual salads and sushi...

Thankfully at approx. 17 weeks the craving of the day is strawberries, I'm getting through punnets of them!

And I HATE the smell of clean washing - which is counter-intuitive - I mean, I've loved the smell of clean washing for 36 years, now it makes me boak.

You are a woman with an enviable diet!

I just ate something off my chest that I thought was left over easter egg.. it wasn't... I don't know what it was, this is a new all time low.

I'm 33+2 and have insane cravings for dried rice and pasta. I've been gobbling fistfuls of the stuff.

I took a pregnancy test because my colleague was eating an orange and I found the smell so offensive I got quite tearful.

Now, I only want to eat cheese and ham sandwiches with mayo. Pre-pregnancy I didn't like ham and I absolutely hated mayo.

I get you OP - I had a very similar post to this a few weeks ago! I've been spending my days surviving on crumpets, pizza, chips, mints, lemon sweets and cocopops - NOT ideal! Can't wait for the first trimester to be over, but I've just relaxed now and realised my body needs this plain (beige crap) food as it stops the nausea!

Plenty of time yet for your hormones to settle and get back to your usual diet, enjoy the stodge for now Smile
