How big is your bump?

I'm 28 weeks + 1 into my first pregnancy and apparently my bump is really small, even though it feels really big to me.

I attended a wedding this weekend just gone, and pretty much everyone I spoke to told me that I was really small for 28 weeks. A lot of them were shocked when I said I would be full term in about 9 weeks.

I've still got my innie belly button, and my weight gain has been around 2 stone, which is fine according to my midwife. Baby's size is fine, his heartbeat healthy, he squirms and kicks a fair amount - so I don't think that my small bump is impacting his health in anyway. I don't really have too many pregnancy ails, mainly just fatigue, heartburn and the occasional bit of nausea.

It just makes me feel a bit like something might be wrong whenever someone tells me that they were massive at 28 weeks. Is it the norm to be fairly big around this time?

People are always either going to say you're massive or you're too small. I'm 25 weeks and was at a wedding on sat as well, everyone was telling me I was huge Hmm I wouldn't worry what people say, they don't have a clue what they're on about. If your midwife is happy that's the main thing.

I had the same with my first pregnancy-everyone took an interest in how small I was and would say things like "are you sure there's a baby in there?", "must be a small baby" etc. What was especially weird were my male colleagues and clients commenting on it continuously. It really got to me as I was having to constantly defend myself.

Even at full term my innie remained. Overall I gained 8 Kilos (despite eating like crazy) and my baby was born heathy.

In my current pregnancy ( 18 weeks with twins) I still don't have a bump, yet the babies are measuring perfectly to size.

I really think it depends on your build and how you carry. I am tall and slim so there is more room for the babies to fit into...

The most important thing is that you and your baby are heathy and your baby is measuring as it should be. Everything else is inconsequential...

I'm 30 weeks now and have a teeny bump. At your next midwife appointment they should measure your bump- if it is too small you'll get referred for a growth scan. I had to have one as bump was measuring way below the centile lines, but scan showed baby in the 10th centile which is fine! Going back tomorrow to check he has progressed along his line, and if so its just that I'm having a small baby.

Ignore random commenters! Your midwife will spot any actual issues (tho remember the bump measuring method is pretty inaccurate! So don't panic if you measure too small!)

As many others have said before, I had exactly the same situation with my first pregnancy. Even the same comments of 'are you sure there's a baby in there'.

At my 25 weeks midwife appt she was a bit concerned with my bump measuring small and so I was sent for an extra scan, all was absolutely fine. Bump 'measured small' (which is a very crude way to gauge actually) throughout my pregnancy and DS was perfectly healthy and although on the small side (for weight, not length) all was well. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with DC2 and the comments have already started again. I am quite tall and have a long body so babies just have room without having to pop out Wink

Try not to worry, if your midwife is at all concerned she will send you for an extra scan and even then it is unlikely to be an issue.

Thank you all for the reassurance Smile

It does get to me a little bit. There's enough worry during a pregnancy as it is without the bump anxiety.

People really do like to make their comments whilst you are pregnant, don't they?

You would not take random medical advice from people you meet at a wedding about anythimg else so just go with whatever your midwife says. I have put on four stone Blush with a baby who is measuring big, no medical concerns just a chunky baby and at 39 weeks my tummy button is just becoming an outie.

Yeah, you are right. I that it's because it's said often, by different people. It can just get to you a little over time. It's silly really.

Not long for you now Heirhelp! You'll have a little one soon! _ I wish I was as close to giving birth as you. Feels like it's taking forever.

People keep saying the same to me keyboard.

For me its because om carrying low so unless i wear something tight, anything loose hangs off the bump and it does appear smaller.

Either way its bloody rude and makes me feel really shit. I dont think anyone intends to have that effect but it still pisses me off!

As it happens im measuring bang on target as im sure you are too. Just ignore! And congrats :)
