Breaking news to work - etiquette

I work for a small company which currently doesn't have a maternity pay policy, so I have no idea whether I'll get statutory or enhanced. There is absolutely no mention of maternity in any of our policies - we've only been up and running a year. I report to the CEO and we have one HR manager. I'm going to wait until my 12 week scan before telling work (have already told close family - I'm 8 weeks) but don't know who to speak to first - my boss, the CEO or the HR manager. Any advice please from people in similar situation? I'm very tempted to tell them sooner as I commute into London once or twice a week and sometimes carry heavy items. I'm not one to treat pregnancy as a disability but I am finding it difficult dealing with fatigue and nausea and don't want to continue to be relied upon to lug heavy items around London when I'm already knackered!

I would tell my boss first, then they can tell you what you need to do next. They might not have a policy, but they may still need to make adjustments to your work, and your boss can then discuss this with HR.

Also, I told my colleagues really early on, as I needed to be eating all the time to help with my morning sickness! I would rather have them know, than feeling I needed to do it in secret.

Thanks Mumma. I may at least wait until I've had my booking in appointment next Monday and know when my scan will be.

I told my immediate boss first, he then told the next up from me. I told HR a lot later when I forwarded my MAT B1 form!

I told my immediate boss but I said I'd prefer the others not to know til later (just in case). There's about 30 fte staff in our company so I'm surprised we're doing so well to hide it (OH is one of them) but I'm sure someone will say they knew.
She has been really good (mostly) about it for time off for appts and things and generally giving me leeway about feeling too ill to come in/do certain things. If you trust your boss to be understanding let them know, if not legally they have to make allowances (no matter how long the company has been operating) so you should be fine.
It seemed to go really quickly for me from booking in to scan - congratulations!
