no heartbeat

Hey, so I don't know if I'm just looking too far into things, but I had my first scan today and they said they couldn't find a heartbeat, they think it stopped just after the seven week mark, has anybody had this happen where they have ended up having a full term pregnancy. I have looked online and it has said it is possible to not find the heartbeat still at 8 weeks

Hoping and praying they were wrong as I can't go through this again Sad

How far along do you think you are?

Report
JessRussell · 08/04/2016 22:07

Well I didn't think I was that far gone as I had a short period in Feb, but midwife said that was probably just implantation so put me down as if I had conceived in Jan which would make me nearly 14 weeks, but all along I have said I don't think I'm anywhere near that

The hospital gave me 3 options on how to go about getting it out. I just don't know what to do as I'm still having the same feelings I have since finding out I was pregnant in Feb, and had 0 signs of misscarriage, don't know if I'm just giving myself false hope but after last years miscarriage I just can't bear the thought of it again Sad

I've had a missed miscarriage, which sounds like what you are being told you have experienced; it is when the baby stopped developing but your body doesn't realise. I am guessing you have been offered a ERPC, medical management or to wait and miscarry naturally. I ended up having an ERPC because at 16 weeks my body still didn't miscarry naturally. However, my hospital were very good and offered me another scan just before the operation to measure the baby again and double check for a heartbeat. Could you ask for another scan just to make sure that you are certain in your own mind that you have miscarried? Obviously, hopefully, you will find out the baby has grown and there is a heartbeat. Hi lovely

You at least need another scan. Also ask for quantative hcg blood test.

I did have a scan albeit very early and their was no baby but i did have the yolk sac but no fetal pole went back 2 weeks later and all was ok.

Every baby's growth is different. Go with your gut feeling and have another scan. Xx

Thankyou so much ladies, I think I'm going to leave it a week or two and if my body doesn't do anything naturally then I will ring up, I just hope my gut feeling is right that I wasn't as far along as the midwife said Sad

Agree that you def need a second scan and bloods as by your dates perhaps you're simply not that far along.

Wishing you all the very best.

This might sound like a silly question but do I just ring the hospital up to book a scan and blood test or would j ring midwife, I've never done this before so I have no idea what to do. Thanks in advance Smile

I'd try the community midwife team in the first instance, should be relatively easy to track them down if you've not had your booking in appointment, which am guessing you haven't? Or you could go private possibly? And on the blood test, it depends on how far along you are really but AFAIK you'd need a series of them, or at least a couple, a few days apart, to see what the bHCG is doing. Was it an internal or external scan you had?

I would say the midwife as well who should be able to refer you to the Early Pregnancy Unit. I have everything crossed for good news for you.

Just posting to say I have everything crossed for you. Similar happened to my friend, her levels were dropping too but then started to rise again and turned out she had lost a twin. Was heartbreaking to go through, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Wishing you all the best Flowers

Did you see the sac? I went for a 6 week scan and there was no heart beat by the following week it was fine, growing and heart beating - the heart beat does start very early tho - I had a miscarriage where I'd seen the heart beat and two weeks later it wasn't there and the sac was no longer round and perfect ... I hope it works out well for you X

How many weeks did they think it was - you mentioned 7 is this their guess from measurements?!

Report
JessRussell · 10/04/2016 14:50

By my dates I'm about 7 and half weeks and at the scan they said it looks like the heartbeat stopped at just under 8 weeks from measurements on baby X

Also from the dates my midwife put on my notes it would make me nearly 14 weeks as she said my 2 days period in Feb was probably implantation so she will go off my Jan period. But since my miscarriage last year I only have 2-3 day periods X

From your dates and your knowledge of your previous periods, it sounds like you have enough reason to request another scan next week (or week after?) and wait & see in the meantime. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be as you wish Flowers

If your 2 days of bleeding in Feb was similar to other periods you've had - and at the time you thought it was a period - I am Confused as to why the MW said she'd ignore it and work your dates out from your period in Jan! (Although I suppose she was at least ensuring that your 12 week scan had no risk of being done too late.)

I've had implantation bleeding and there's no way you'd mistake it for a period - sorry TMI - but it was different colour (NOT bright red, bit brown + light pink watery) and just light spotting for maybe a day or so.

So assuming your LMP is actually Feb, you could also actually be less than the 7.5 weeks you think you are, if you ovulated late etc.

Hope you manage to arrange another scan and make sure you let them know what you think your correct dates are. Best of luck.
