1st baby movements?

Hi, this is my first pregnancy and im at 18weeks. I'm certain both my husband and I have been feeling baby's movements for the last week when a hand is placed on my stomach and today I think I can feel most of baby's body lying across my abdomen. This seems so much earlier than any of the books/websites says so I just wondered if anyone else has felt this so early in a first pregnancy? I'm a size 8/10 and quite toned so maybe that has something to do with it?
Thanks Smile

Following with interest. I posted a similar thread two weeks ago when I was 18 weeks, am now 20 and haven't felt anything Sad so glad I've got my scan this week as I'm starting to worry

With my first pregnancy (6 months old now) I left him move for the first time about 17 weeks it was like a fluttering that you start to become more aware of. Towards the end of my last pregnancy I played my iPod (earphones on dump) to my bump and he use to love around so much.

My current pregnancy I am 16 weeks and haven't felt the baby move yet but hoping I will in the next two weeks

18 weeks isnt too early for you to feel movements, although I'd question whether your partner can feel them. I first felt them at 20 weeks with DD1, but my DH not until a lot later, nearer 30 weeks.

I first felt movement around 17 weeks and my DH first felt it at 19 and a half weeks, 100% as we saw it on my stomach when I was laying flat. I was also petite, no idea whether this was the reason for it though.

I "think" i felt a few at 18 weeks but only one or two... at 20+6 exactly i started feeling proper pokes and kicks (definitely baby - you wont be left in any doubt!) And have felt baby every day since (now 22 weeks exactly).

Its probable that you are feeling baby but the proper kicks you will KNOW when you feel them! (Ive got an anterior placenta too and first pregnancy that has got this far)

I was feeling regular movement at 18 weeks. I was going to say it would be surprising if your partner could, but I made a note of when my partner first felt a kick this time round, at it was at just 21 weeks, so not that much later.

Not early really. My first was kicking at 17 weeks. At my 16 week appointment with DC2, the midwife commented on how visible movement was from the outside. DS was a real wriggler and I have a short abdomen.

You're probably feeling your uterus externally as opposed to the baby though.

I was about 15+5 (it's my only pregnancy) but I'm also (well was!) about a size 8 and I have a posterior placenta.

This is my first pregnancy and I first felt baby move at 16+3, my husband shortly after that. The first movements felt like a little fish or something, small flutters and taps. I'm now 25 weeks (well I am tomorrow) and feel her all the time.

Thanks for the comments, it's nice to hear real experiences rather than just read 'average person' medical info. Butterflylove16 I love the fish description, that along with some prods sounds like what I've been feeling too Grin

I was around 15-16 weeks when I first felt LO kicking. It felt a bit like wind except I just knew it was him if that makes sense. The description of it being like a little fish is so accurate! It's my first time too and I have anterior lying placenta so wasn't expecting to feel anything so soon. I'm now 26 weeks and he's just discovered kicking my ribs so you have that to look forward to! I felt first hints of movement about 19 weeks. It felt like when your stomach turns over in a car but much further down l. Im now 23 weeks and feel lots of moment everyday even with an anterior placenta. I assume it's quite high up though because the movement is always low down.

This is my first, felt flutters at around 16 weeks and a proper kick at 18 weeks. He's been very lively since then and now at 38 weeks he's still kicking the crap out of my insides all day every day!

Leirope, I thought it was wind the first time I felt movements too! I described it as ā€˜pops and bubblesā€™ inside; that was about 17 weeks ā€“ I thought it was wind because I was convinced it was too early to feel anything.

Now at 36 weeks, the baby is doing advanced yoga, somehow managing to put its bum up in my ribs and push its heels out of my side at the same timeā€¦
