Empty sac dilemma! 😞

Hi ladies, hope some of you can shed some light - here's my story

i came off my pill mid-pack on 24 December, had what I thought was a period on the 27th December, did a test on 30 January and showed positive 2-3 weeks.
Going by my period date (27 December)I am 9-10 weeks pregnant. I had slight bleeding at the weekend, not much at all, mainly pink colour when I wiped (sorry tmi) I went to a&e and they advised to come back for early scan to check everything ok. So, I went for a scan on Tuesday and was told there is an empty gestational sac (blighted ovum)and that I should return in a week to confirm failed mc and discuss options!
I was absolutely distraught and so confused. I've spoken to midwife, doctor and read lots of things on various forums about people in similar situations and now I'm wondering if the hospital have been a bit harsh and not considered dates could be off?

My question is... Have a got my dates wrong? Having never been off the pill before I didn't realise until speaking to a doctor that the period I had was in fact a withdrawal period and not an actual period.
I found out yesterday that the scan showed the gestational sac was the size of 6 weeks (they never told me this on the day!) is it possible that I am in fact 6 weeks pregnant and not 9?! I have no idea when I ovulated and no idea how long my cycle is. And is it normal to not see an embryo at 6 weeks?

I have also read a lot about people in similar situations having blood tests to check hcg levels but I didn't have any, and when I called yesterday to ask why I wasn't given a blood test they said it was unnecessary based on scan results. Concerned about this too, why is it not being monitored?!

I'm going back on Tuesday for another scan, but it's driving me crazy not knowing what's happening.

Anyone been in this situation?? Help much appreciated

It's a hard one. Your test that said pregnant 2-3 weeks at the end of Jan would suggest your further along than 6 weeks. BUT your dates could be wrong. I had a blighted ovum 2 years ago and it's horrible. I was told to return a week later to see if anything had developed. Unfortunately it hadn't and I ended up having an erpc.
I'm sorry you've been left in a horrible limbo position. I wasn't offered any hcg tests either. Hopefully next week will show that things have progressed and your dates were wrong. Good luck

Sorry you have been left in limbo - it is so hard. It is pretty normal for them to say to come back in a week - at the next scan they will be able to tell if the baby has grown or whether it just looks the same. A hcg test probably wouldn't be that helpful as your levels would probably be high either way.

If you are 6 weeks you would expect to see an embryo and probably a heartbeat - but not always. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that your next scan shows some progress.
