Pregnancy

in your 2nd pregnancy, how often did you see your midwife?

I'm 23+3 with dc2 but I've only seen a midwife once (scans not included) and that was when I found out I was pregnant and it was my first appt. since then, nothing.

I honestly can't remember with dc1 as it was 4 years ago and I have a rubbish memory! I've got nothing in the diary coming up with my local midwife, only an appt with the hospital as they thought the baby's tummy was a bit large.

Is this usual with do no 2?

For babies two and three, I had an initial booking in appointment at 8 weeks, then another appointment at 16 weeks. I think my next is booked at 28 weeks. You should have a schedule of routine appointments in your notes which lists what you get for second pregnancy.

Not as often as with the first unless there are issues, although I can't remember how often at all! Both my babies were early anyway so missed the cluster of appointments at the end

Three times in total. It doesn't seem much compared to your first does it!

Not often. The gap between 36w and 40w seems particularly relaxed...

pathway is what you should have so the 25 week and 31 week are for first time mums only. Of course areas vary and appointments should be as needed. Really the earlier appointments for first time mums are to give them more time to talk about things and it is assumed second time around you kind of know about stuff (rightly or wrongly). Essentially, clinically, there is very little to be done before you reach around 28 weeks.

I'm 24 weeks with no2.

So far I've had booking in at 11 weeks and another appointment at 16 weeks.

My next appt is 28 weeks.

Hmm... So it depends where you are as to how many you get.

I might call and find out, surely I am going to have at least 1 appt at some point?!Confused

Catchit. You say only once, was that after booking as you should have seen a midwife around 16 weeks to discuss initial blood test results and scans. If not I would contact your midwife ASAP or the Unit where you are booked.

If you did see a midwife around then, as NICE guidelines expect to see midwife again around 28 weeks when repeat bloods are usually repeated (to check you aren't anaemic/making antibodies). After that again around 33 weeks.

If you are concerned at any point in between contact triage of the Unit where you are booked. Good luck with your pregnancy.

8,16,22,28,32,36,39,40 here. I think you should phone, that doesn't seem right. I'm in Scotland though so its different here.

10, 16 and 28 weeks here. I'll see her again at 34 then I think nothing till 38. To be honest I've been generally well and not really felt the need to see her otherwise.

My midwife said I could make any extra appointments if I felt I needed them.

I'm a community midwife, the nice guidelines suggest booking appointment, 16 , 28, 30/31, 34, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks for second babies. I always offer women an appointment at 25 weeks though, as I feel it's too long to go from the 20 week scan to 28 weeks without seeing someone.

8 weeks for booking app, 17 weeks, 28, 31 (app tomorrow). I'm not sure how many more times I'll see them, hoping they'll let me know tomorrow.

Since my very first appt to let them know I'm pregnant, I've had no appts (not counting 2 scans). Nothing about my bloods/urine or anything else. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see if I can find out why this might be.

The thing is, although this is no 2, I'm 40 this year and I would have expected a bit more. It could be I'm a little bit more worried as a friend of mine had a miscarriage at 5 months just before Christmas and that was her 4th, so maybe I'm just a bit more aware of what can go wrong. Sad

Once in my first trimester, twice in my second trimester and then every week after week 38 until birth. I was always welcome to call or schedule an appointment if I needed to.

OP are you with a big hospital trust by any chance? I am and it had changed a lot since I had DC1 so I didn't know how it worked. Took me a while to realise that I no longer go to the hospital midwives but the community ones.
Once I was on their radar they scheduled appointments. Just had my 31 week app yesterday and am now scheduled for 34 weeks. Then again at 36, 38 and 40.

I have a appointment booked for 16 weeks, this is my 3rd child. I think you should have been seen then and you should have another appointment soon for a repeat of bloods to check iron and antibodies if you're a negative blood type.
