Early scan shows pregnancy is 2 weeks later than I thought

I thought I was 7+4 pregnant (LMP 25 December). Following 3 mc I had a scan today to check everything is going OK so far only to be told that there is a sack with something inside but it's only the size of a 5 week baby and therefore unable to see heartbeat or anything.

They've called me back in a 'seems like a lifetime away' 2 weeks for another scan to see how it's developing. The consultant did tell me that for a 5 week pregnancy everything is looking normal, but I can't help thinking that the baby has died 2 weeks ago hence it looking like 5 weeks.

How could my dates be 2 weeks out when I know I had my period on Christmas day and I'm normally regular give or take one day either side.... I'm 45 years old so for me this is really last chance saloon and I'm so worried :-(

Has anyone any experience of this? Thanks so much

Oh bless you. Thats the wait from hell. I've been through it and its the worst thing ever.

You might have ovulated late in your cycle though. So even if your period started bang on time, you might have ovulated towards the end of your cycle instead of 2 weeks into it. The baby would measure smaller because it was conceived later.

Fingers crossed. Hopefully you will see a little bean jumping around in 2 weeks time.

The dates are often a bit random, and ovulation is rarely exactly half way through. It's horrible waiting, two weeks can feel like forever at this stage. I had repeated scans through my first pregnancy because of measuring small for dates. In the end I went to 43 weeks and had a 6lb baby, perfectly healthy, just small. Try not to worry (easily said) - taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do. Flowers
