Obese bmi at "booking" appointment not right!

I am really upset/annoyed. I thought I was 6 weeks less than I am so thought I was 12 weeks today (turns out I'm 18!!) had consultation with a midwife today as well for my bloods for tests etc. She took my weight and height and came back with a bmi of 32. She took about 3 mins working it out on a chart and didn't look so sure how to do it as she was relying on a nurse to do it but nurse didn't have a chart. She looked confused that my bmi was this much and she said "it's not fair that's considered your bmi considering your half way through but you will need a diabetic test now"

I am shocked that this is my bmi as my pregnancy a year ago it was 27 and I'm not much bigger than back then! I'm not skinny or thin but I'm not obese! Pre pregnancy my bust is 34g, waist 29 inches and hips 46 (which contribute to most of my weight)

I weighed myself when I got home with two different sets of scales and they both say just under 12 stone. Making my bmi 28. Still overweight but not classed as obese!

I'm 5 ft 5 and 12 stone and half way through my pregnancy. I have my booking appointment tomorrow and do I tell her I think it may be incorrect and want weighing again? I don't know what implications being "obese" has but I don't want to be made to see a diatician or take needless tests when I'm not.

I'm not disrespecting anyone that is obese I'm just a bit annoyed that my calculations are different to theirs. I haven't got any paperwork with what they "think" my weight is on, so I guess I will find out tomorrow then will know if it's my bmi that's wrong or my weight

I think she's made a mistake. I'm 5 ft 6 and I was 11st 8 at my 10 week appointment. My bmi was 26.

According to the NHS BMI calculator your BMI is 27.9 so you're absolutely right to question it. They can't argue with the NHS BMI calculator Wink. I'd definitely ask to be weighed again and get it checked again.

They did mine wrong too.

Also 32 shouldn't make a difference to your care pathway.

I had a high BMI at booking, higher than 32. All it's meant is a GTT at 28 weeks which was simple and I passed by a long margin. I'd rather have had that test than not been given it because I was slim.

I agree they've got it wrong and you need it corrected, but you don't need to worry about lots of extra things at a BMi of 32.

Tell them and ask them to change it if it's on your notes.
My midwife got mine wrong at my booking apt. She had it as 21 when it should be about 25.
They are useless!

I had a bmi of 30 at my booking. They offered a dietician etc but you don't have to take it. Only thing was 2 GTT tests which are 2hr boring appointments. Again I didn't have to take them but I did.
If you don't agree then absolutely say something at your appointment

They got mine wrong too but I didn't realise until 3-4 months later when my "weight" was unchanged despite my big bump. Then I remembered the midwife saying she had forgotten her glasses and couldn't see the scales. (I am overweight so was too busy cringing in anticipation of the results at the time).
It didn't change my care plan particularly other than adding the GTT test where they take blood before and after necking a load of lucozade.
