34 and a half weeks pregnant with first baby and did a urine dip test this morning to find ketone levels quite high. Blood sugar levels are okay as well. No blood or sugar detected on dip test so booked in to see GP this afternoon...should I be worried? Picture attached :/ Please help x

Are you diabetic? If so I'd be calling your diabetes nurse/consultant asap rather than GP.

No I had the blood tests done but all clear for diabetes :/

My ketones were quite high at end of one of my pregnancies and it was due to me being dehydrated and not eating very much. Could this be the same for you?

Sorry should add, that I was tested at midwife appt and that's what she told me. And she was right as I wasn't eating much and not drinking enough water.

I have no appetite due to still having some sickness...not everyday but when I am I'm being sick for 20-30minutes :/ scared of eating too much and can't really anyway as just get full more or less straight away. Just concerned that I'm not feeling good and haven't felt this bad during pregnancy so far and not really got far to go...am I over reacting? X

I have 34/35 week midwife appointment tomorrow so based on what GP says this afternoon will determine appointment tomorrow I guess

It's good you have a gp appointment booked and you are seeing MW tomorrow so I wouldn't be overly worried. I would however try to eat something regularly.

I'm no expert but also make sure you have some carbs...if you tend to be eating more protein and less carbs it will lead to increased ketones.

You must be feeling rotten. They are very high - it's not good for you or baby. Try and get something to eat and drink and they will reduce.

It's a vicious circle because keytones that high will make you feel awful. But you need to try and get and drink through it.

I've had hyperemesis and feeling and being sick is awful. In fact, I was put on a drip because I just wasn't able to eat or drink because of the nausea.

Good luck Thanks

My consultant admitted me at 20 week scan with ketones as it was sign I was dehydrated so well worth trip to docs.

Aw you will feel better for it. It might be worth asking if you can have any anti sickness meds. That might help
you stay on top of things.

Thanks get well soon

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. My MW asked if I was still being sick, which I was, and if I was losing weight which I am.

They aren't too concerned but I am diabetic so they keep a close eye on me, I'm sure that the hospital will do the same for you now.

Take care

Ah that's good news. Hope you feel better for it! Did they give you any anti sickness meds? It's worth looking at the hyperemesis thread if you would like any support - the posters are lovely

Just keep sipping water /ice lollies. Very familiar situation for those of us suffering with hyperemesis and dehydration is most likely cause of ketones. I've not kept food down for weeks but as long as I have some fluids I am OK (although have no energy!)

I had this is labour last time - I felt so sick I wasn't eating or drinking & got really dehydrated/low blood sugar. I've asked to stay off the diamorphine this time as I think that's why I felt so sick.

Hope the fluids and anti-sickness stuff did the trick OP.
