Early pregnancy, sonographer vs midwife!

I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything like this. I'm about 5-6 weeks pregnant and had one light bleed. Went to my EPU and they scanned me. Sonographer said the gestational sack is there, no yolk yet but not to worry because i'm probably slightly earlier than I think. She said it's def not ectopic. The midwife was a totally different story and very negative. She advised bloods to check for ectopic even though the sonograher said it definitely wasn't. I know she's just doing her job so happily did the bloods...but I don't know whether to be up or down right now. I feel fine...slightly sick but generally ok. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think that sounds pretty positive. Think it's normal not to see much at 5-6 weeks. I think the midwife is being a bit over-cautious personally, but there's no harm in that. Good luck!

I'd believe the person who can actually see inside your body over the person who is generally pretty useless until the baby is crowning. (Sorry, basing this on my experience of pretty crap community midwives.)

Fingers crossed for you, hope it all works out Flowers

I had an ectopic scare just before 5 weeks, they weren't sure when they first scanned me so I had the bloods done just in case, which I found reassuring as had to wait 4 days for another scan, when they could see the gestational sac but no yolk sac, same as you so I'd say it sounds positive as well :-) it's horrible and scary so def have the blood done but what the sonographer is saying sounds right with timings so you should be fine. Did they tell you ectopic signs to look for in the meantime and do you have a repeat scan booked?

I too would trust the sonographer (goodnightdarthvader I always like the cut of your jib) as they are the experts when it comes to diagnosing anything regarding pregnancy at this very early stage.
Hoe the blood tests go well and although it's a massive cliche... Hope for the best but consider the worst. X

100% with the PPs - sonographer would have told you if ectopic. Could you get another scan at around 7 weeks. If so you'll hopefully see someone in there by then! Good luck.
