Dumb decision

I decided (through people anxiety) not to attend any antinatal classes. I'm 33 weeks and NHS one is booked and NCT do not have my dates in my area. Problem is, is I now have no idea how I know that I have gone into labour. I'm guessing that it would be obvious if you have a person coming out of you?
What are the early stages of labour and how do I know when to go to hospital?

You can find lots of info online, the only thing you'd miss from classes is the opportunity to make friends. (Which is why I'm regretting not doing it)

Period type pains that get longer and stronger, or possibly back or thigh pains
Waters breaking

It's pretty hard to miss, I think. If you're not sure, you can ring a midwife and they can help

One of the better parts of the NHS one was that it explains all the pain relief options and the side effects eg gas and air can cause nausea, I would say you could ask your midwife at your next appointment about any particular questions you have. I would recommend a book I read called your body, your birth your baby for general birth info too .

I have a lot of new mummy friends and will likely do the baby groups so making new friends wasn't a thing for me (especially with my people anxiety)

Tightening pains that come regularly and get more intense. Call triage at the hospital if: contractions are every three minutes lasting 45-60 seconds, if you can't cope with the pain and want pain relief, if your waters go, if you have reduced regal movement, or if you have any bleeding. Triage can then advise you whether to go in or stay home a little longer :)
