Pregnancy

Just found out I am pregnant and now terrified...

Hello everyone :)

I found out yesterday (after taking 5 tests Blush ) that I am pregnant for the first time - I think I am 5 weeks today. I am utterly shell shocked - it is unexpected but we are delighted. Kind of right person wrong time sort of thing.

I am now overcome with a crippling fear that something will go wrong. DP is on cloud 9 and I feel terribly responsible that I have to protect this tiny baby. We are getting a private scan at 8/9 weeks (mostly for my anxiety!) and then we will tell family.

Using logic - I am 25, don't smoke, rarely drink, but my BMI is 32. However I know this can mean nothing.

Can anyone reassure me that they went through this, and how they dealt with it? I need to calm the hell down!

Firstly congrats x secondly, this happens to everyone (the anxiousness I mean). Take each day as they come. Honestly if you go through everyday thinking something will happen you will drive yourself loopy. Xxx

Firstly congratulations!!
My dc1 was planned but I had exactly the same feelings when I found out. I honestly thought it would take months to conceive and it happened straight away and I realised how unprepared I was. I was terrified I would do something wrong, something would go wrong, I actually had a nightmare before the scan that there would be nothing there and I had imagined it all including the constant sickness, I woke up in a sweat with my pillow wet from tears.
However it got better as time went on and I went on to thoroughly enjoy my pregnancy - it is a lovely experience feeling your baby move and grow.
I think the worry is all part of becoming a parent and I mean this in the nicest way but get used to it because once they arrive you never stop worrying.
Best of luck to you and try to enjoy as much as you can.

Thank you everyone :). I just need to rationalise it, as I'm doing everything within my control to be healthy etc. so if anything happens it's out of my control. I'm glad it's not just me.

I can't believe I need to be a grown up now Grin Grin

I was terrified with my first and I am now also scared with my second. You are probably still in a bit of shock as well if you only recently found out, takes a little while to get used to the idea. Congrats!

My first was a happy accident. I spent the pregnancy with a mix of 50% over the moon, 50% terrified. This one is planned and the same is true (but probably for slightly different reasons! I now know the joys to come, but also what we're in store for!). I think everyone is the same.
Try not to worry too much, although I know it's not always easy. What will be will be, very little of what you can do will alter the path. Remember that the majority of pregnancies result in a happy healthy baby so the odds are on your side. Your age and lifestyle swing the odds further in your favour of all being ok. Although your BMI isn't ideal, it's not a massive issue on its own and one you can tackle during pregnancy if you wish. Slimming world take pregnant ladies I believe? Your midwife will be able to give you more information. You may even find you lose some weight if you get the dreaded morning sickness...
As for the needing to be a grown-up now: well, sometimes Wink I had a meltdown driving home from work having just turned 30 and finding out I was preggers with DC1. I think it went along the lines of "Mortgage, married, O.L.D., and pregnant! When did all this HAPPEN?!" I can't go out dancing all night often anymore, but I still get to be silly with my daughter, and DH and I still have time to have fun. I don't feel particularly grown-up really Smile

I rejoined Slimming World a couple of weeks, so the plan is to carry on!

Thanks everyone, I think because I can't tell people it's driving me up the wall! Feeling most reassured Grin

Mine were planned but I was still terrified when I found out! Don't let it ruin your pregnancy. Fab news, congratulations X

Congratulations! I recommend the book "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster. It is a sensible book about conception, pregnancy and childbirth. Friends recommended it to me, and we've all found it very reassuring. It might help with your anxiety?
