Let's talk evap lines......

I know, I know. Never thought I would post something like this. Took a test this morning as have been having lower abdominal cramps for 6 days. I'm still breastfeeding dc2 who is 10mths and haven't had a period since the birth. Given the pain and no periods so can't tell if I've 'missed' my period thought I'd do a test just to rule it out. We are relaxed ttc if it happens it happens type thing and we'd be happy. Looked at the test after 1 minute and no line (its a 3min early test) got distracted by baby and dc1 and didn't go back until 30mins later and low and behold a line. I'm sure it must be an evap line but it's very distinct and it has colour(!) will do another test tomorrow morning but what are other's experiences with evap lines from branded tests? Did they have colour? Google tells me no they don't have colour and most don't but occasionally do Grin so that's clear then lol. Due to age and other factors am slightly concerned about ectopic. Will set a timer next time to look at the darned thing within the time frame! Here's a not great picture the line is much more defined than it shows in the photo

That looks positive to me! I did a test on the day my period was due and couldn't see a line after 3 mins but saw a faint one after 10 mins. I knew I couldn't trust that though but sure enough the next day got a proper BFP within the time. As far as I'm aware an evap line would be colourless.

That's positive.

Oooooo really? Even after 30+mins? fans face Shock It would be a happy miracle! It was very difficult getting with dc1&2, took years with miscarriages and lots of failed fertility treatments including ivf (nothing wrong just old eggs) both ended up being natural miracle conceptions but it was a challenging journey getting there. If this is a bfp it will be amazingly wonderful for it to happen so easily!

Similar to you I took a test and at first no line showed, chucked it in bin and thought nothing of it. Something made me go back and check it after 30 mins or so and there was a line. Mine turned out to be positive

Oh myyyy! The line on my test is much darker than yours Hello oh wow.... DH left for work convinced it's an evap line even though he didn't know what an evap line was before this morning

It's much darker and clearer in RL than in the pictures I posted. If I'd seen this line between 3 and 10minutes I would have said instantly that's a bfp but it was 30+ minutes so just don't know what to think.

Get a first response as they are the most sensitive. This was my test last week super faint so I went and got a first response and got quite a good line

Am I right in understanding from pp that this doesn't look like an evap line? Is it because it has colour and is (faint) not super duper faint? The 30+mins doesn't matter that much?

Doubts creeping in.....Confused

I know you're supposed to disregard the result outside of the timeframe but anecdotally, I tested negative and came back later to a line like yours. I tested again daily for a couple of days and the line came up quicker and quicker each time, definitely a BFP!

It doesn't look like an evap but it can't be relied on because of the time frame. Take another test and read it at 3 mins. DON'T use a clear blue as they are notorious for evap lines as are Sainsbury own brands. Good luck.

Sorry I replied to the other post! Is say do another one at 5am tomorrow am. Hard to see for sure.

I really appreciate all the comments! It's difficult as they say to disregard anything after the time limit but so many of you have posted to say that they were bfps! I just don't see how I could get such a defined pink line (better in rl than in photo!) and it not be a bfp??

Nothing doing but to do a another test tomorrow and hope I get a clear answer! ˆwrings handsˆ

If you hold your wee in a while a first response would probably give you your answer now...just saying nothing to do with me being impatient

Did you retest this morning op?

Report
FraggleRaggle · 04/11/2015 09:13

Morning! Retested with a FRER in middle of the night after 4hr pee break and it was negative Sad

So it must have been an evap line!

I did a second test this morning after 3.5hr pee break (not really long enough but hey) with the same brand as yesterday to see if they are prone to evaps but nothing on that as well.

After years of taking pregnancy tests this is the first time anything like this has happened, a bit Hmm

Well on the positive side it gives me more time to get fitter and stronger for hopefully another pregnancy later! Thanks all for your comments!

Sorry it wasn't a bfp like you were hoping Sad. Though nothing puts your true desires into perspective better than things like this. Now you know what you really want, it will be easier to go forward with a plan.

There's a response on this thread which explains faint results hours after testing and evap lines very well. Smile
I also got a very faint positive several days before my missed period (tested as I just had a feeling, the cat is never usually THAT friendly to me except when I was cheggers with DD...) but it took an hour or so to appear. A clear blue confirmed it a few days later.

Ah, bugger, in the time it took me to find the link and type with my two fingers you've responded.
Sorry it's come back negative. If you still feel odd in a few days, may be worth retesting just in case it was too early to pick up enough hcg.
