Early Miscarriage?

(27 Posts)

Hi all,
I'm 5 weeks 5 days pregnant (two positive tests) and am experiencing a little bit of bleeding just this evening (brown discharge at first and now a tinge of fresh red). I had a few twinges (like period pains) earlier and had also noticed this afternoon that my breasts don't feel quite as tender as they used to. I had a little sleep before I noticed the bleeding, having felt quite tired all day with a slight headache. Am also feeling nauseous, but that may be the nerves. Has anybody experienced this and then gone on to have a successful pregnancy or should I brace myself that this is the start of a miscarriage?
I'm 40, had one previous miscarriage 6 months ago, but began a lot milder. No no other previous children.
Any comments welcome

Yes I have at about the same stage you are. I had seriously heavy bleeding and spent a night in hospital but my little man is now a very large four year old. Don't panic just yet!

Thanks RugbyWidow7, that's encouraging. It's hard to keep things in perspective.

At 5 weeks I haemorrhaged fairly badly, and was sent to a and e who told me I was miscarrying, a week later I had a scan to make sure it had finished and they found a heartbeat. My little beauty is now a very lively 2 year old! smile
Don't worry yourself to much!
Good luck xx

I had this around the 6 week mark. Brown discharge and a little blood. Also had bad lower back pain and slight pains in my stomach and was sure I was misscarrying. I'm 20 weeks now and all is good so far smile try not to worry xx

How are you OP? Hope things have settled and it's just implantation blood. When I miscarried at this stage it was all bright red blood and clots, no brown blood. Many people do bleed and continue to have healthy pregnancies. cake

Unfortunately this little birdie seems to have flown. I'm still bleeding, but flow and pains have increased and the colour has changed to bright red with clots. It doesn't look good. Will have a phone appointment with the surgery tomorrow and hopefully get referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit like last time. Thanks all for your stories. Gives us hope to carry on x

Hi love apples

How did you get on? I am 5 weeks 2 days but have like you experienced brown discharge followed by red blood when wiping. Phoned the EPU who advised to monitor for 48 hours after which they can offer blood tests / scan. It's so hard waiting sad

LovesApples Wed 18-Nov-15 13:59:24

Hi Melvali, I'm sad to say that I lost that pregnancy. I miscarried naturally over the course of the week. Took a test a week after which came out bfn. I called my gp after the weekend when the mc-symptoms had started. I knew by then that I was miscarrying because of the pain, the bloodstream and the clots. The gp advised to miscarry naturally, like I had before and test a week later. They are sending me for further tests though because of my age, which is quite nice.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation. How are you doing now?
Waiting is really rubbish and that time when you're not entirely sure what's going to happen is very difficult I find. My only advice is box-sets and hot chocolate... but it sucks regardless. Hope yours turns out well - hang in there.

redstrawberries101 Wed 18-Nov-15 17:49:43

Hi

I am so sorry to hear that. Thanks for responding. I just read all the threads regarding bleeding and wanted to know how it turned out for everyone.

Still bleeding, and now have some cramps, preg symptoms subsided and went to Hosp for blood tests this afternoon. They will give me results in the morning.

I'm 5-6 weeks so they said they prob won't do a scan but will do blood tests again on Friday and Sunday to see if levels are doubling as expected.

Thank you for your kind advise. Just trying to keep busy and focused. Glad the docs are going to do some tests with you X

Thanks Melvali. Any news? x

redstrawberries101 Thu 19-Nov-15 14:41:00

Hi love apples

How are you? I spoke to the EPU this morn and they said my levels are 15081 which is in line with 5-6 weeks. I am going for a scan tomorrow now. Not banking on being ok really because of my lack of symptoms. I had symptoms from before AF was due to week 5 day 1. And then since then they have disappeared.

Hey,

Been getting brown discharge from Saturday, then it changed to blood on Tuesday evening. Rang local maternity ward & they said it's nothing to worry about unless I'm soaking through a sanitary towel every 20 minutes and I have severe pains where I can no longer cope, however they sent me to get a internal scan at the EPU yesterday. Of my knowledge I was 8 and a half weeks due to my gp calculations whereas when they done the scan they said I was only 6 and a half. Everything was OK, and the midwife said the blood wasn't coming from the pregnancy or anywhere in that region, it must be in the passage. At 6 and a half weeks pregnant is it normal to get period like cramps? And I'm confused to where the bleeding is from as in why I there was brown discharge and then blood? Quite worried still after the midwife told me everything was OK x

LovesApples Thu 19-Nov-15 17:10:59

Hi Melvali, I do hope that it might be okay. I really do. Let us know how you get on tomorrow with the scan. I keep my fingers crossed xx

Hey egbsf I'm sorry that you also have that worry, but it does sound rather encouraging. I don't have any experience with spotting since all of my bleeding has only ever ended up in miscarriage, but there are loads of women on here who had spotting and bleeding and now have healthy children. I completely understand that you must be terribly worried. I would feel the same. Wish you the best of luck and hope that you get some answers x

redstrawberries101 Thu 19-Nov-15 17:49:01

Hi egbsf, that sounds really promising though! smile can understand you still worrying though but least all looked OK on internal scan.

I'm not 6 weeks yet and they offered an abdominal scan, not hopeful though and trying to prepare myself for the worst.

Love apples - thank you, I will post after scan. It's so scary. Have you had more than one miscarriage? If you don't mind me asking did you have it naturally and did they offer you that vacuum procedure? Were you exhausted during it?

egbsf Thu 19-Nov-15 22:24:28

Since posting early I've had severe abdominal pain & 9 huge blood clots. Been to A&E & maternity. They said they couldn't do anything as they weren't specialised in early pregnancy & to wait until tomorrow morning to hear from the early pregnancy unit and hopefully get another scan. Doesn't sound promising and haven't settled myself, anyone been through this before? Midwife said that women have been in my position but only worse and have went on to have their babies, whereas there has been women who haven't had much signs and haven't had ongoing pregnancies. But she said there's a 50/50 chance of misscarriage as it's still within the first trimester. She done a pregnancy test (don't know why) and it still came back pregnant, don't know if that makes a difference, would just like to hear other people's experience's x

Hi

Did you manage to get your scan today? Please do let me know how it goes. Will be thinking of you. Such a worrying time

I went for the scan this morning and thankfully they could see the gestational sac and the yok sac inside it. No heartbeat but she said at 5-6 weeks this is normal.

They were pleased that the pregnancy is in the right place and blood results the other day were in line too so they have discharged me from the EPU unit. Any further problems and I've to phone back.

Such a relief but I don't know if I'll manage to relax at all as its still a long road...

egbsf Sat 21-Nov-15 11:03:25

Sadly yesterday when I went to the scan it wasn't there. I knew in my heart that it ended, and I could tell from the pain and the numerous blood clots. How maternity couldn't tell me that and I'd to wait overnight with not a wink of sleep really angers me! Turns out the baby stopped growing at 6 and a half weeks and I was supposed to be 8 and a half. Heart breaking. Leaflet I was given helped, and it said the best time to get pregnant again is within the 6 months that I had a miscarriage as there'll be a very low risk of me having another one. I know it's a bit soon but whenever you get around to the idea of a baby (it was unplanned and a big shock) and you get all excited, you can do nothing but blame yourself even though I was told there's nothing that could've been done to prevent that it's one of those things, I have it in my heart that I want one. Hope all goes well with you & baby Melvali x

redstrawberries101 Sat 21-Nov-15 14:22:22

I'm so sorry to hear that, no words can describe it or make you feel better. You will get through this and I hope you all the best in the future. Big hugs. Just take the time you need and make sure you get enough rest X

redstrawberries101 Sun 22-Nov-15 22:19:22

Hi egsf

Not looking good for me - passed a black jelly like substance with what seemed like tiny clots. Will phone EPU tomorrow X

HollyJenni Wed 02-Dec-15 21:33:11

How are you ladies getting on?
I miscarried in August. I'm 5 weeks +3 now and so scared.
The miscarriage was the hardest thing I have ever been through. The physical pain is one thing but the emotional is way worse. I found I would be OK and then I would either be in bed or in the shower and something would make me cry again. I will never forget my little one. My little foetus just stopped growing round 6 weeks and it was heartbreaking and the not knowing is the worst part. It is so cruel so my thoughts are with you
X

redstrawberries101 Thu 03-Dec-15 21:35:44

Hi holly jenni

I am ok thanks. I had a scan last Saturday where they picked up a heartbeat thankfully. Since then I have had two incidents - when wiping the colour has been tainted with blood. Thankfully nothin more has happened so I'm keeping positive. I thought I was 6 weeks 6 days but at the scan they dated me at 6 weeks only. Seems strange though as That would mean I got my BFP at 3 weeks.

I'm therefore only 6+5 today.

It is such a worrying time isn't it. I'm just trying to take one day at a time xxx

Unfortunately that is all you can do. Just rest as much as possible too x
