So today is the day (finally) of my nhs dating scan. I am 12+5 today.
A week and a half ago we had a private reassurance scan which showed a live foetus with a 4.5mm nuchal transluncey. We where told it could mean downs, t18, t13, heart problems, spine problems etc. no other soft markers found and a nasal bone was present and the brain divided into two. (Was all we got told) we was advised to phone the hospital which I did.
I phoned the hospital to see if we could move our dating scan forward and get the combined test done to get out risk factor. They couldn't do it so a week ago today we had the combined test privately. We was told we would be automatic high risk as that day the nt measured in at 4.9mm. We where very surprised when our results came in on Friday as being 1:280 chance of downs.
They based it on my age. I am 21. The nuchal measurement which was 3.87 mom. The Papp-a level which was 2.26 mom. The beta hcg level which was 2.99 mom and the nasal bone which was present.
I have read that t21 normally has low level Papp-a and high level hcg and that t18 and t13 normally have low levels of both.
Well I have high of each so I assume that is what bought the risk down.
Today is my nhs dating scan and I'm so scared they'll find something else wrong with our baby for example a worsened amount of fluid, fluid in the stomach etc. I'm scared to death that our baby will have a birth defect and we will have to make the heartbreaking descison to terminate.
I don't know if to get the combined test done again on the nhs but then I'm scared that we will get worse odds.
We have mine milestones ahead, today, sixteen week heart scan and the anomaly scan. I'm so scared and can't picture a healthy baby at the end of all this.
