Normal cervical length during Pregnancy?

I've just been to my 12 week scan and my cervical length is 2.3cm. The woman said this is in 'normal range' but I was told in previous pregnancies anything below 2.5cm in below average.

I do have a consultant appointment next week but the woman didn't put my cervical length in my notes!

Does anyone know the normal cervical length? Thought that was short for 12 weeks, it was 2.4cm at 17 week's with my daughter and 2 days later dropped to 1.2cm

Hiya, just thought I would add my experience. My cervix was 2.1cm at 20 weeks, and randomly 2.9cm at 24 weeks. Now I am sat here at 38 weeks..... No signs of baby yet!

So I think your cervix can vary. When is your next cervix scan?

I have cervical weakness, I lost my baby due to it at 23 weeks was fully dilated with very little pain. With my 2nd it dropped to 1.2cm around 18 weeks and they had to put a stitch in, gave me steroids at 24&28 weeks and 2 months bedrest. They said I'm high risk of premature Labour. So abit nervous!

I see my consultant next week, so they'll book my next scan. My 20 week is end of September

Mine went down from 3.5cm at 14w to 2.5cm at 15w. Because of previous history (similar to yours) they put a stitch in the next day.

In your position I would be insisting on a stitch ASAP - with your history you should be an obvious candidate for a stitch.

Good luck.

Mine was 3cm when measured last week at the cervical clinic (at 15 weeks). My notes say I will be referred back to them if it is 2.5cm or less at my 20 week scan so I think 2.3cm must be below average.

Good luck next week with the consultant. With your history I would be asking for a stitch.

My DS1 was born prematurely and with DS2 I had cervix length of about 2cm from 26 weeks. I was monitored closely and put on bed rest, and DS 2 was born at 36+4, but my understanding is also that a cervix length of less than 2.5cm is a bit shaky. I don't know when the monitoring starts though - perhaps in early pregnancy it's not so crucial? I would request an appointment, and consider a stitch. I have just had DC3 at 37+0 after electing not to have a stitch, but I took progesterone pessaries from 18 weeks and was off work so that I could rest a lot. This time my cervix stayed stable at about 3cm, but it was monitored every two weeks because of my history.

Good luck with your pregnancy! Fingers crossed that baby stays put.

Reading this with interest. I will be 14 weeks on Monday and have got a cervix scan.

I'm so scared and paranoid, I actually want a stitch in!!!

Not having a stitch isn't an option because I will definitely go into early Labour. Just nervous last time my cervix was this short they made me wait and I had to be rushed in for a stitch and with a 1 year old I can't do that. I'm hoping they send me for one in the next two weeks because I have a family member of work to help then. Not long to wait now!
