My pregnant belly has deflated..need reassurance 10weeks

Hi Ladies I am 10 weeks today and I have woken up to find my huge stomach (looked more like six month than just a matter of weeks) has deflated. I have gone and bought maternity jeans that now do not fit. I am slightly panicked by this - although the nausea and vomiting is still with me. Presumably it was bloating, is it normal for this to happen. With my first child I didn't show at all until about 17 weeks so I am a bit confused and wondering if I should get a private scan as my 12 week scan is not for another three weeks?

For me this happened too and it was normal. With my second it was more obvious that my stomach had "deflated" once the bloating went down around 13 weeks or so, probably as the second time around our tummy muscles stretch mpre easily. So I personally wouldn't be worrying yet - before 12 weeks your uterus is behind your pubic bone so any "bump" is mostly bloat which will change from day to day.

Thanks Mulligrubs - I thought it must be bloat, but I wonder why it just all of a sudden has gone down? I stupidly went on a board where everyone was saying this happened and not long after the 12 week scan showed the baby had died. I have had a heck of a journey to get here and I am just a bit jittery.

This is my first and that happened to me. I looked further gone than I was and stomach went down. I'm 16 weeks on sunday and I'm starting to wear maternity clothes as my others ate way too small for me now.

It was completely normal for me :) this is my first, but I don't think I got a proper non food related baby belly until about 20+ weeks. At 10 weeks my belly would grow during the day and then disappear over night. Some days I looked pregnant and then some days completely flat!

Before about 10 weeks, your own hormonal production is doing a ton of the "driving", and after the placenta takes over a lot. During the part where your hormones are totally in charge because the placenta can't do enough yet, you start building up fluid--your total amounts of ALL body fluids go up about 20-25% in the first 8 weeks! In women who don't have a lot of body fat to start with, this fluid can end up going to the tummy and giving some early pregnancy roundness. Around 10 weeks to 12 weeks, your body figures out things to start doing with that extra fluid and it stops pooling up in random places.

Ah thanks - I am only a small frame so my stomach has been huge! Makes sense now. I wonder if that is why I am weeing so much - swear I don't drink anymore fluids than usual but seem to be producing more. I am up three sometimes four times a night, wondering if I should be concerned about that.

Thanks all! Feel much more reassured! I have had to wear maternity clothes since 8 weeks with a full round bump! Then this morning I woke up (10 weeks 3 days) and the bump is just gone. Was so worried. I was a size 6 before so this makes sense. Thanks so much! Good luck xxx
