4 boys - help!

I'm 13 wks pregnant and I've already got 3 DS (7,8,11) Just had my Harmony results which were low risk (Whoop!) and found out I'm having another boy. I'm really pleased everything is ok but 4 boys?! Shock I'm in a minority as it is in my house and have weekends full of rugby and football. Think I just wanted advice/reassurance from anybody in the same situation with so many boys.

Lucky you, four boys. Why help though? I would have thought that with three youd be well past all the nonsense and negativity that abounds about only having boys?

At least you won't have to fight for the bathroom Grin

I have 4 boys. Congratulations! They are all very different from each other and the older 3 adore the youngest. Ds4 is the best thing that ever happened to our family. Also you'll save a fortune in hand me downs and toys.

I definitely live in 'boy world' and love my three to bits but I'm also aware as a teacher and a parent how different some (not all) boys and girls can be. My house is constant chaos, noise and competition. Just wondered if 4 boys would be that different from the 3 I already have. No nonsense and negativity just welcome any advice.

Thanks Bit This baby is very much a surprise and we have got rid of all the baby/toddler clothes but my god is he going to have a lot of toys! Going to tell the boys this weekend. Not sure what their reactions will be.

Wow! 4 brothers! Amazing! Congratulations! I have a DD of 20 & DS of 17. I adore them both but my son has always been "easier"-even when he's been being "tricky", if you know what I mean? He's much more "like me" in nature and so we think alike, have lots in common etc. His sister....is a VERY different character!!

Ds4 was a surprise here too. 4 children is probably chaotic whatever. We have a lot of bickering and fighting and arguing. It's a noisy house. I kind of like being the only female. There are advantages. I dint know anyone else in RL with 4 boys. I know a few with 3boys then a girl.
Be prepared for others reactions. That's the worse thing.

I know Bit, my mum has 6 grandsons between me and my brother and I know what her reaction will be! Yes I think 4 children of any sex will probably be just as noisy.

And Wonky my eldest (11) son has just discovered the bathroom and he may be some time. Smile

What's wrong with 4 boys? I have 5 boys (9,8,5,3,2) and 3 girls (13,12,7) and another girl cooking (being induced monday). boys are brilliant! as are girls!

I have three boys and wouldn't change it for the world!

You are so lucky. Just be strong and ready to cope with other peoples helpful reactions. People can be very rude.

DH is one of 4 boys. They are all very close as adults and I believe they were as children.

Thanks Lost for that reassurance. My 3 boys have a love/hate relationship at the moment with each other but I'm hoping that as they get older and probably spend less time together they will become better friends. And when this baby is born there will be a big gap between him and the others so hopefully (fx) that will be fine.

I have four boys and one girl, girl is the youngest. I love my gang of boys, life is always crazy, loud and fun. They are all individuals though and I haven't noticed ny differences with having a girl now as well.

Thanks 5mad and Mummy - lots of reassurance and yes I wouldn't know what to do if I had a girl, although I know they're all individuals. I know it will all be fine but as OP have already said the general reaction I am getting when I tell people is pity/shock! Still haven't told my DM yet. That will be a big surprise as I've been saying for years now that I was all done with babies due to my age (41)

Any news Scorpio ?

One of my best friends is one of 6 boys. All the brothers are close but there are three 'pairings' IYSWIM - so growing up, each had a particular buddy. His mum is the proudest, most spoilt woman ever. Enjoy!Smile

I have three brothers and I'm the only girl. I think that's a more awkward set-up as people feel the need to treat the 'only girl' differently and once my brothers and I started noticing it could cause friction even though it wasn't my fault.

That being said, I think personality rather than sex has more relevance on how they will all get on together and any problems they may have in the future. Life with 4 can be noisy no matter what. At least you'll never be bored!

@nicnicspicnic how has it been?

Report

Wow @4cheekymonkey reading my original post was a blast from the past! I now have 4 boys aged 15, 12, 11 and a 3 and a half. It’s a very physical and noisy house where everything is a competition but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I sometimes joke that in a parallel life I have 4 girls and go clothes shopping and do crafts with them. But as I hate clothes shopping and I do crafts on my own I don’t think i’m missing out. So all good here... Smile

That is lovely to hear! Mine are still young 9,7,5,almost 1. I struggle with the physical fights and there are a lot of them. I wonder if they ever grow out of it or if it just gets worse?! Confused

Wow. Congrats. You must be delighted that all looks healthy. That really is the main thing.
I only have one boy but I would love for him to have brothers. I can’t even imagine have a girl in the house. I’m pregnant again so who knows what’s ahead of me. But I know gender/sex doesn’t really bother me. The way I see it is that we are not defined or shouldnt be defined by our gender. Each baby is a different person, a different personality, another member of the family to love and care for no matter whether they have a penis or not!!!

@4cheekymonkey I’d like to say the physical fights lessen as they get older but in my case they haven’t. The thing I have found with my boys (not all boys because I don’t want to stereotype!) is the more sport they do the better their behaviour towards each other. We are a very sporty house and although it means our weekends are taken up with sporting events it does help with the fighting.
