Nub theory disappointment

Hi, I've been in this forum for a while and read all kinds of threads. I learned about nub theory whilst doing it, not really thinking about what would happen when I had my scan. I had my scan last week and the nub is practically fluorescent - one of the clearest I've seen. I know what it suggests I'm having, but I also really wanted a surprise. How accurate is the theory do we think?

I was quoted quite a high accuracy percentage but personally I was told girl from the nub and it's a boy, and the same has just happened to my friend.

Oh that's good, thanks nellor. I'll be ecstatic either way, but I just didn't want to know until the time. I feel like I've got a secret as I can't tell my partner and potentially ruin the surprise for him.

There's a 50/50 chance you've guessed right Wink

Congratulations and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Yes - if you want a surprise then let the sonographer know as soon as you're in the room to avoid any 'accidents'!

Yep, later on it can be ENTIRELY UNMISTAKABLE . Tell them you don't want to know before the scan starts, and they'll turn the screen away if looking at that area.

I guessed from my DD's 12 week scan, and I was correct...

Also, if you really don't want to know from the 20 week scan, ask for a scan picture that doesn't show the full body, as my boss spotted a complete meat and two veg in my DS's 20 week scan picture!

So this time, I am determined that DC3 will be a complete surprise! DS wants a little brother, and DD wants a little sister, so someone is going to be disappointed!

Haha, thanks all. I'll make sure we mention it. x

Nub theory is just a bit of fun, I don't think its very accurate at all. Skull theory even less so. You'll get as much sense from nubs as you will from a wedding ring over your bump.

Ah thanks Sarah, that's good to hear. I thought it was scientific!

The idea might be, but realistically all us amateurs on the internet just don't know enough for it to be anything serious.

There must be loads of factors affecting it and we just wouldn't know them. But remember there's a 50% chance it's right, son don't be disappointed if it does happen to be right in your case Wink
