Can anyone help me? I've been in the latent phase now since Monday night and I'm going out of my mind. I'll try and explain the best that I can, but all the nights and days are morphing into one.
Got back from my pregnancy yoga class on at about 10pm on Monday night. I'd been experiencing pains in the class and also during the day. I had at first thought they were Braxton Hicks, but they seemed to be coming to thick and fast for this to be the case anymore.
DP rang MLU to say contractions between 8min to 5min, so irregular. They said to come in when they were 3 mins apart and so strong I couldn't talk.
I went in on Wed morning as the contractions, although still not regular, had started getting stronger and longer. They watched me having the contractions and said they didn't think I was very dilated (although didn't do VE as they said they can be painful and didn't want to do one unnecessarily) they sent me home with prescription strength codeine etc. Had a show at some point between Wednesday night and Thursday morning and managed to get a bit of sleep at one point due to having a warm bath which seemed to slow things down.
I decided to go in again on Thursday afternoon, as although the contractions were still irregular, they had really ramped up pain wise and were lasting much longer (had thrown up in the night too). Asked for a VE this time and was told that everything had thinned out and I was 3 going on for 4 cm. I understand that you have to be 4cm to count as active labour. Midwife did a sweep and I then went off for a trace due to reduced movements. When coming back from the trace I was getting long strong contractions every 2-3 mins. I started to freak out a bit, saying I couldn't cope with this if it went on for another 8 hours or whatever. The midwife took me to a room and said I could use the pool, which would be soothing and might either speed things up or slow things down. Contractions slowed down a lot and were a lot less painful, but I was happy as I got some respite for a bit. Even managed to have a 20 min nap (the most since I went to bed Sunday night). MW said I needed to try and eat and drink more as I had lots of keynote in my urine (throw most of the food up, but managed to keep down some lucazade).
Eventually, the contractions started coming back again just at shift cross-over. The new MW examined me and said that I still wasn't quite 4cm and that I should go home and try and get some rest there. Had a warm bath in the hope it might settle me down again enough to sleep, but have been up all night with contractions about every 5 mins. They are very painful. If I start to snooze between them, my breath is taken away when the pain comes back. I've had no rest at all.
I don't know what to do. Until they are regular i.e. about 3 mins apart and I'm about 5cm I can't have anything stronger like the gas and air. I'm so tired and in agony. The tens machine and the codeine simply isn't cutting it. I can't believe this bit doesn't 'count' as labour!
Sorry this is long - and advice?
