Pregnancy

8 week scan not great news but hopeful

Hello,
I would love to hear from other mums who have been through this or similar....
My last period was 1 May 2015 with potential and likely ovulation on 14th May.

First scan June 10th gestational sac 3mm

Second scan June 17th gestational sac 8mm with dates measured at 4 to 5 weeks at a guess.

Third scan July 1st today gestational sac 11mm and fetal pole 4mm with dates measured at 6 weeks.

This mean there has been hardly any growth in 2 weeks and there is no heartbeat yet either.

So my dates would be at least 2 weeks out.

Sonographer said there was a 95% chance I would properly miscarry in the next short while. I have had cramps and some light bleeding over the last few weeks , hence the scans.

HOWEVER I have the most in-explainable sense of hope. There is some tiny patches of bleeding int he uterus would could be implantation bleeding or the beginnings of gestational sac disintegration.

Bloods for HCG being done today, Thurs and Sat.

I have read stories like this online this morning and wondered if I could get some advice. I am sorry if this thread is just another one of these kinds of stories.

My midwife says I should remain hopeful until proven otherwise.

I feel quite sad too, especially without a HB at an assumed 8 weeks with a 6 week old fetus.

Sorry that you are having bleeding. It's always worrying isn't it. I've no advice other than to try and distract yourself and wait and see what happens. Sorry if that's rubbish advice Hmm.
Is it your first pregnancy?
I had lots of bleeding with two of my pregnancies one ended with a miscarriage at 12 week and the other ended up with DS2 - I had stomach cramps with bleeding with him early on and had resigned myself that I was going to miscarry but didn't.
Good luck. Hope everything works out.

I have no direct experience, but my mum bled a lot when pregnant with my younger sister and she is now 15.

I can't imagine the stress you are under, try to relax and be kind to yourself while you wait. I've got everything crossed for you xx

Sorry to hear you're feeling down - I will tell you one thing though when I went for my early scan beanster was 8mm and I was classed as 7 weeks . Not sure if measurements are the same for everyone . I did see the heart beat though .

According to my pregnancy library it showing that you're well still under 10 weeks so it is possible not to feel ar see anything . Did they just do a scan or used an internal examination as well ?

I wouldn't worry much and I hope it's good news for you.

Chin up

thank you ;) I am trying not to worry as nature will simply take its course either way. My youngest is 8 years old so this is a surprise pregnancy with my new husband and this baby is so wanted but I cant MAKE it happen so will have to try relax. Bed rest for a few days around the kids.

The concern is not so much the bleeding but rather the lack of growth as some bleeding can occur. A gestational sac should be at least 20mm by now.

Sorry to hear you're going through an uncertain time right now.

I've read a few stories where women have an unexplainable hopeful feeling and usually they're right - mothers instinct I guess!

I hope everything works out for you
Good luck Flowers

I will of course keep updating, even if its bad news.
I do keep wondering whats happening with bean....next scan will be in one to two weeks dependent on HCG blood level results or if something naturally happens between now and then. Second bloods this afternoon, results from both bloods tomorrow morning. Third bloods will only be necessary if first 2 are looking good.

So tempted to go get a private scan somewhere else but I just know that's not going to change anything. No more bleeding or cramping so its mainly the lack of growth and heartbeat that is making me so worried.

Here's to mothers instinct :)

So sorry to hear this, I am going through this now, I went for my first scan yesterday and was told the sac measured at 8 weeks and the baby 6 weeks and there is no heartbeat, after getting upset and having to wait around to see somebody I decided to leave the hospital and go home, now people have shown me articles saying this has happened to people lots if times and when they have had a second scan everything had been ok, so I'm now even more confused! Either way I'm not getting my hopes up and am doing the upset part now, has anybody else heard or had this happen ???

Soda I am so sorry to hear your news. I had a similar experience earlier in the year - the scan was inconclusive but I had falling HCG Levels which basically confirmed a MMC which ended naturally, it is the worst feeling in the world but please don't give up hope, keep trying and keep positive and good things will happen.
