Anyone in Hertfordshire able to give any feed back to help me pick from one of the above hospitals?

I can't give any advice because I only just moved to Hartfordshire, but I am having my baby at Watford. So far so good, but a long way to go yet.

I'm at Watford, good so far, appointments on time etc but very anti-c section. Probably not a problem for you but I had an emergency section last time so would like an elective this time.

AbbeyRoadCrossing I also had a EMCS last time and attended the group VBAC session there last week. It was fine. Lots of information, but I have about a million questions. I have my consultant appointment in a couple of weeks.

I had my first dc at Lister 5 years ago. I was there being induced from the weds 9am until Friday 11.15am.
My time on the ward being induced before delivery was awful. I was given a sweep without being told that's what was going to happen, I was told I was just having an examination to see how things were going, and then after having the MOST painful sweep was told, 'I thought I may as well do a sweep while I was there'. This sweep brought on contractions, but ones that were distressing the baby, (heartbeat was dropping after every one), so they had to move me to the delivery suite and shove me on the hormone drip.

My time in the actual delivery suite was actually brilliant. Midwives were amazing.

Baby was whisked off to scbu straight after birth due to shoulder distocia and erbes palsy (she was 11lb so got a bit squished on the way out). I was told to have a bath, after having an 11lb baby and been given 3 stitches after an episiotomy, (because there wasn't a shower available) and give a urine sample.
Scbu was ridiculous. No one kept me informed. I wanted to breastfeed, asked every day for a beastfeeding counsellor (they had two there at the time), I was in for 5days after giving birth and still no one came to assist me. Scbu were feeding baby every 3hours by tube and for 4days refused to let her get hungry to enable me to try breastfeeding properly.
The staff on the ward I was n (in a room with 3 other ladies who all had their babies on the ward with them) were HORRENDOUS. No bedside manner. Not helpful. Extremely rude in some cases. It was awful.
I would NEVER recommend the Lister to any woman giving birth.

I hope that it has changed there nowadays. But unless you're having a guaranteed straightforward birth, I would go elsewhere.

Just to add to the mix I've had all 3DCs at Lister. 1 EMCS and 2 ELCS and all were extremely good. The first one was 16 years ago and the last 20 months ago. They have a new maternity unit there now and the care I received before, during and after was excellent. I was under consultant care throughout my pregnancy. I wouldn't go to Watford if you paid me!

Lemon I too found the VBAC session very useful. I've been told by the midwives though that I have a fight on my hands if I want a CS this time. I've got to see the consultant midwife before I can see the actual consultant. As I had a premature birth last time I'd rather not see the consultant too late!
