Has anyone had a big baby the subsequent babies been smaller?

Dc1 was 7 lbs 2 oz then dc2 came along at 9lbs 14oz !

I had my booking in appointment for dc3 today . I delivered dc2 at our local CMU with no problems . However because of his size I've been put on an amber pathway and referred to consultant .

I'm just wondering what the likelyhood of the consultant allowing me to deliver at the CMU is ?

Has anyone here had a smaller birth weight subsequent to a larger baby ?

Yes DS was born 2 weeks overdue at 9lbs 6oz. DD arrived one week overdue at just shy of 8lbs. Both were induced. I doubt she would have put on a lb and a half in a week if I'd delayed the induction, so she was always going to be smaller.

Yes firstborn was 9lb (5 days over) second was 7.5lb ( born on due date). Both boys to my surprise!

DS1 was 9lb2, DS2 was 10lb and DS3 was 8lb 9. DS1 was a couple of days early. The others were both 2 weeks late.

Ds1 was 7lb 9oz, dd 9lb 9oz, ds2 7lb 2oz - although he was 3.5 weeks early so may well have been similar in size if 40 wks. (Other two both overdue). There was no mention of dd's weight at any point during my antenatal care with ds2 (born last October).

2 was the biggest, 3 & 4 were smaller (not hugely smaller but smaller) even after taking into account their different gestations.

DS1 was 8lb2, (long labour, needed ventouse) then DS2 was 9lb 14. Much shorter and easier labour, I did have a 2nd degree tear but he had his hand on his head, silly boy!
DD came along 3 years later at only 7lb8, a very similar labour and birth to DS2. No one ever suggested I needed consultant care or any other special treatment and I delivered at the MLU at our hospital.

DD2 10 lb 10 ozs (7 days over due)
DD3 9 lb 10 ozs (5 days over due)
DD4 10lb 8ozs (7 days over due)

DC1 40+7 8lbs 5oz
DC2 40+8 8lbs 15oz
DC3 40+15 10lbs 13oz
DC4 40+10 8lbs 4oz

I did have to have extra GTTs and a couple of growth scans with DC4 as a result, but was on shared care anyway as I have an under active thyroid.

Forgot to say, all 3 were born within a few days of their due date so gestation can't have made a difference. I still blame DS2's vast size on all the magnums I ate when pregnant!

My first was 9lbs 3oz, so not massive but big enough.

2nd was a much more reasonable 7lbs 12oz.

My first was 9lb at 40 weeks, 2nd 8lb 2oz at 38 weeks.

My third (currently 37 weeks) was only 5lb at my last scan (2 weeks ago).

I am not expecting this baby to be any bigger than 7lb

My first and only dc was 11lb. The midwife won't allow me to have this one anywhere but hospital. (I'm 31+5) I'm under consultancy, but they've only seen me once, at 21+2 for a very brief discussion, and will only see me once more, at 36+3 for a growth scan, to decide whether they will c-section me or not depending on baby's measurements.
I'm hoping baby is going to look smaller than my first, then I might be able to argue to have baby elsewhere!!

Forgot to mention, my first was very overdue. 2 weeks by their dates, but 3-4weeks by ACTUAL dates (my lmp and possible dates of conception up to 7 days diff)

Yes ds2 was 8lb 16oz, ds3 was 7lb 14oz. Ds3 put in loads of weight after birth though and now tracks the same centile as ds2 did.

I went on to have a bigger baby, first was 9lb 12 ozs and second was 10lbs 2ozs. I was allowed to deliver the second time in the Birthing Centre, after the Consultant signed off on it, and I got no additional care, though I think DC1 was about 50g under the 4.5kg threshold for an official big baby. I had also had a third degree tear the first time round, which was actually my bigger risk factor I think.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with DC3 now, and at my booking in, the midwife who works in the birthing centre didn't think I would have any problems using the birthing centre again, as I clearly do not have problems giving birth to large babies (apart from my tearing issues!), but I'll find out in 7 weeks whether the consultant agrees...

Just remember to get the consultant to sign the form, I had to bounce backwards and frowards between two offices, till I had the right paperwork to satisfy the birthing centre...
