Question about moses basket & cot.

With only 5 and 1/2 weeks to go until EDD, I'm starting to panic about sleeping arrangements!

We have a cot in the nursey and a moses basket with a rocking stand. We just assumed that the moses basket and stand would be in whatever room we were in (i.e living room, bedroom) for the baby to sleep in.

However, we were thinking about it last night, and I'm wondering about the logistics of it all. For example, in the morning when I get up with the baby, I would need to carry her, the moses basket and the stand downstairs to the living room. Then if I wanted to nap while she was napping, I'd need to carry it all back upstairs, doing 2 separate journeys.

Is an alternative option, to put the moses basket in the cot? We would obviously then move the cot into our bedroom, and put the moses basket on the rocking stand in the living room, then leave that stand in the living room. Then I could carry her and the moses basket upstairs for naps etc, and put her in the moses basket, in the cot.

Is that safe? Or is there another way that we just haven't thought about?

For me, the stand lived in the bedroom. The Moses basket I carried downstairs in the day and lived on the floor til the evening.
Now I have a toddler DS I may have to rethink that with the next baby- on the floor is a bit of a hazard with a little stumbler about, but without kids or pets no harm can be done.

You can put the Moses basket on the floor!

Not sure about the basket in the cot.

I used the carrycot from the pram downstairs. But you can put the basket on the floor, couch, coffee table etc. Anywhere.

We just kept the Moses basket downstairs and the baby slept in the carrycot from the pram when downstairs.

Use the Moses basket as described, but without the stand. Just carry the baby around with you where you go in the house.

I put the Moses basket in the cot, that way if I woke early and wanted to go downstairs I could carry it down without disturbing baby :-)

I didn't feel safe carrying baby up and downstairs in a basket so we had a small, cheap crib in our room and a Moses on stand downstairs. If baby napped in the day I just kipped down on the sofa or, knowing he would sleep after a particular feed, did that feed in the bedroom.

Ooo ok, lots of options it seems! I will give them some thought. Thanks for the replies :)

I'm pretty sure our Moses basket lived on the living room coffee table for the first few weeks! We put it int the big cot in the nursery for day sleeps if they were 'scheduled' but used it downstairs in the living room for other daytime sleep or just quiet time, and at night used the Moses basket in our room. This time, as I am having an elcs and have a toddler, we have bought a wooden crib to leave permanently in our room and will use the Moses basket downstairs as before. to be honest, you find what works for you and your lifestyle and that's going to be different for everyone.

Or, just as a second option, why not just get a second hand stand for cheap and keep one upstairs and one downstairs?

I wouldn't get too worried about Moses basket locations! I had a grand plan of using crib in bedroom and carry cot in living room etc. little did I know that newborns gong sleep in them. They sleep on your chest Wink

Ds1 was a complete Moses basket refuser, ds2 loved it. Why do you need to carry it back upstairs when the baby is sleeping? Just lie on the sofa if they're having a nap and you want to snooze.

Anyway, you don't have to be with them every second of the day. Take baby downstairs, bung baby on floor / in bouncy chair, go back upstairs and bring Moses basket down safely.

Oh yeah, true about them sleeping on your chest. We didn't use the basket much in the end. I couldn't resist the cuddles!

I always put the Moses basket in the cot. We took the side of the cot off so I didn't have to lift too high.

If this is your first and you don't have a toddler to worry about you can put the Moses basket with the baby anywhere. Ours lived on the sofa during the day or on an armchair. Sometimes even on the dining table.

And I also NEVER carried the baby down the stairs in the basket. That would be the stuff nightmares are made of in my head Confused

Thanks again for all the suggestions :) Our sofas are very uncomfortable to even sit on, let alone lie on, which is why I would be taking the moses basket upstairs if I wanted to nap too (which would be likely as I have M.E).

I wouldn't really want to just leave the moses basket on the floor because I get a bad back sometimes, so bending down to pick it up might be a problem.

Going to have a chat to dh about all your suggestions and see what he thinks :) Thanks everyone.

(P.s I can see her sleeping on me a lot too tbh, so the moses basket might not be needed anyway!)

If buy a second hand cheap one for the living room. I got one that was hardly used as baby didn't like it for a tenner. Keep one in living room and one downstairs.

Ours always napped in pram carrycot - so easy as I could take it with me to any place downstairs. At night he slept in a cot - we did not see the point of getting Moses basket (except for looking cute), they grow out of them very fast anyway.

daluze mine was in her Moses basket for 7 months, we certainly got our money's worth Wink. She was very squashed but hated her cot!
The cot wouldn't fit in our bedroom anyway.

My dad slept in her pram cot if downstairs and Moses basket upstairs.

I used to put baby in the pram for naps downstairs and in the cot to sleep at night.

Didn't see the point of a Moses basket.

My DD sleeps in the moses basket upstairs at night and catnaps in her bouncy chair through the day. At 6wks old she's awake for longer periods through the day so it would be a waste of time taking the moses basket up and down the stairs Smile

With dc1 we used moses basket upstairs and pram carry cot downstairs. However he hated the basket so moved into cot bed after a few weeks, initially in basket in it, as you are suggesting.

We just had 2 stands; one upstairs, one downstairs
