How fast can pre-eclampsia develop?

I'm considered at more risk of developing pre eclampsia as my mother had it.. I also had bp problems towards the end with my first but it wasn't pre-eclampsia.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and blood pressure has been good all the way through.. Usually around 110/70. 3 days ago it was 132/82. My midwife didn't seem concerned as was told it was still normal but I have been worried as it seemed a big increase from my usual blood pressure.

Ive had no protein in my urine or swelling at all but today I've woke up with a nasty headache that isn't shifting with paracetamol. Plus I've been getting heart palpitations for the last week. Which I put down to anxiety as it's been a busy stressful week.

Should I be concerned?

I don't have experience of pre-eclampsia myself but have highish BP which is being monitored. Mine is currently around what yours is and they have asked me to be monitored at least once a week.

However, mine was 140/90 at booking which is why they're not too worried but considering yours is normally lower I am surprised she didn't ask you to go back for a recheck - on it's own it's not particularly high but considering the jump and the fact you had problems before it would seem to me definitely worth checking out.

I'd call the hospital....let us know how it goes

I think you should call you midwife - and expect to have a new bp reading, and urine check. You should really be checked out. You are full term now too, which is when you are most at risk to develop it due to the strain on your body, but your baby is fully grown, go and get checked. With PE you don't have to have all the symptoms, you must get checked out now.

I had high bp end of first pregnancy, delivery was fine but I was induced. Second time around I developed PE post delivery and was in for a week, it wasn't pleasant. Make sure your bp is monitored closely post delivery too.

And pack your hospital bag if you haven't already!

The fact that you have a bad headache that isn't going with paracetamol is a marker for PE, please go now. Worst case, you just get checked out, they would much rather check you just in case.
