When midwife dips urine, do they test for an infection?

Or is it just looking for protein?
I've been feeling rough for a few days, a bit fluey, absolutely knackered and no energy. I'm wondering about UTI but would that have been picked up at midwife? Am 33 wks.

Yes they look for signs of infection, you can get infections that don't show up unless cultured (sent to a lab to be grown) so go and see your GP and ask to have a sample sent off. UTI's are nasty in pregnancy and can leAd to premature labour if left untreated. I'm not saying you have one or will end up with a severe infection etc but please do go and be seen.

Mine definitely don't. They just give me a stick that changes colour for sugar or protein in the urine to wee on.

Protein in urine can indicate a uti.

A slight rise in protein could indicate a uti, so that and alot of protein combined with other symptoms maybe pre - eclampsia. Unless your diabetic then maybe sugars (although more likely bloods for this).

Thank you for all the advice, I am going to make an appointment to check as I just don't feel right.

The dipstick for urine does detect infection. Protein and blood in your urine are indicators for infection. They would send the sample away to the lab for more accurate testing if infection is detected

Yes the dipstick does indicate for infection - I went to gp this week as thought I was brewing for cystitis or thrush she said no white blood cells present which would indicate for either and further tests.
She then examined me and said baby has moved down and is now pressing on my bladder - also quite a big baby she said - eeek!

I went to the go with a uti this week. She did the dip test and it came up positive for everything except glucose.
So I've been given some abs that make my urine florescent.
Better than an infection though.
Wbc and blood are a sure sign of infection but utis can develop within hours so you may need retesting.
