Baby movement - bit worried!

Hello all

21+5 today and had a scan last week where everything looked good. However I am a bit worried this morning as the baby has been kicking me quite a lot for the last 2 weeks, but yesterday and last night I hardly felt anything.

Some parts of the internet say not to worry as the baby is still v small at this stage and not to count movement until 28 weeks; others say go straight to hospital. I am really beginning to get worried and the OH is getting sick of calming me down!

What do you guys think - normal or should I call hospital? Thanks all!

Its really past 24 weeks thats the kicks are really important to monitor, that said if you are worried, ring and ask to be checked. They wont turn you away!

You could try a few things before you call, cold drink, a gentle press on your bump or i think fizzy drinks can prompt a kick.

Its aimed at kicks further on, but have a look at Count the Kicks website for more info

The baby is so tiny at this point still that they have lots of space to hide and kick in areas you won't feel. Some people won't have felt much movement at all at that point so do try not to worry. As the pp said patterns of normal movement should be monitored after 26 ish weeks.

I don't think they would see you at 21 weeks - don't you have to be 24? In my area before that it's A&E.

I was worried at about 25 weeks and even then they were saying it can go into hiding. One small turn inwards and you wouldn't feel it.....

Ring if you're really worried but it's normal!

Definitely ring if you need to, but as others have also said, the baby could be hiding somewhere. This happens to me all the time - I think there's a routine but suddenly it all changes and I don't feel anything when I'm 'supposed to' ....

But, always ring if you have worries. They're there to reassure you and check these things out and it's much better to 'waste' a little of their time rather than sit there worrying. (I personally don't think it is a waste of anyone's time, just that's the usual expression and I don't know how else to say it - hope you know what I mean!!)

You and the baby come first, and there really is no point in worrying if a phone call can help. Good luck xxx

Thanks ladies! I worried a lot yesterday and finally felt some nudges in the evening and a few more this morning. I think at not quite 22 weeks perhaps it's a bit soon to expect it all day every day - but hope she stays where she is so I can feel her, otherwise I think I will have to call the EPU!
