I've been just so tired all the time and had a blood test Tuesday to check my iron levels, my doctor just called to say I'm anaemic and need iron tablets asap.

Can anyone give me some more information about what this means/involves during pregnancy? Will the tablets make me more awake now?

You'll come across many many women who become anaemic in pregnancy.

They will prescribe you iron tablets to take, should be no more than twice a day.

Your pooh will turn black and you may become constipated, but bear with it!

Always try to take with orange if possible and never with caffeine (stops your body absorbing it)

Have with or just after food to help.

I have been on them since 28 weeks, and am nearly 32 now. I take 3 a day and it's a bit of a nightmare with the no milk before or 2 hrs after, you have to manage your cup of tea timings! I have noticed a bit of a difference, I still sleep a whole lot though.

You'll feel a lot better but it takes a few weeks for them to kick in. I'm not sure if you're planning on birth centre, but if you are your iron level is one of the qualifying criteria so it's good they've spotted it so you can get your levels up.

I've been on iron since 16 weeks and I feel a lot better now. I didn't notice how crap I felt until taking them for a week

I'm on 2 a day also since 28 weeks. (Galfer). There was no improvement at all apparently when I was on one a day from Weeks 24 til week 28, iirc). With the restrictions on tea (even decaff) and milk and eggs and wholegrain being taken in and around the same time, I've started taking mine in the middle of the night (on one of my many toilet trips). I must be lucky in that I haven't found the symptoms bad at all. I take a Fybogel once a day to prevent constipation. I don't find they give me stomach aches, even on an empty stomach in the middle of the night. Does anyone know though if it's okay to take the 2 together (given that they cause me no pain etc.) or is it a waste of time and do I really need to space them out for better results? I couldn't find any info and my doctor was very vague when I asked him. (I actually don't think he believed I was taking them, so unimproved were my results.....)
I can't say i've noticed having more energy either.
in fact as I type all this I'm starting to wonder if they are actually working for me at all. Maybe I was given placebos ;) or maybe my body is stubbornly resisting? I'll be tested again in about ten days I think.
Anyway, hope all my iron is going to the baby.
