What happens during a doppler appointment to assess blood flow?

Had reduced movements on Saturday and had an inconclusive ctg. Scan on sat and today shows all seems to be ok. However, as the heart rate dropped during ctg and for my peace of mind, consultant has arranged a 'doppler appointment' for Friday to check the blood flow.

What exactly is this/what happens during it?

Basically An ultrasound where the blood flow through the umbilical cord is measured. I'm suprised they didn't do it while scanning you on Saturday.

It's just like an ordinary ultrasound, except they look at the blood flow through the umbilical cord to (or from?) the placenta. I had these as part of the normal pregnancy utrasound scans and it didn't take long at all for the Doppler bit of the scan to be done.

The scan I had on Saturday was literally a minue long, because they knew I had my consultant appointment and growth scan coming on Tuesday.

During my scan on Tuesday they did say something about the blood to the placenta was all fine, so sounds like they've already done it? So not sure why consultant has requested this doppler scan - he just mentioned it because I said they were still unsure why the heart rate had been dropping, so to speak to him about it, so he said he'd send me for a doppler scan. Wondering if it will be a waste of time now.
