The not-so-delightful-sides to pregnancy

Hello all,

I'm 9weeks (I believe) with our first child, and boy am I a far cry from glowing, radiant pregnant lady. Here are the things me and DH are experiencing;

Food; I either want to devour it with barely enough time to breath between mouthfuls or throw up on it... Baby is already becoming expensive in just my food consumption.

Gas; Any food consumed can quickly manifest itself as a massive belly of bloated-ness. Which then generally leads to UNHOLY farts... Like honestly... Even the dog looks at me as if to say "Really? Do you need to go outside?"

Tiredness; Just OMG! I have always loved sleep but this fatigue can be nigh on hibernation. I'm amazed I'm still awake at this time (I did nap earlier Wink).

DH; has been amazing! I just wish I still felt sexy (and smelt better...) for the both of us.

Mood swings; from emotional pregnant lady to struggling-to-be-a-reasonable-human-being.

Anyone else experiencing similar? Lol

I'm with Polly...27 weeks and it doesn't get better....although I did get told I got 'the glow' from week 16 or so onwards. thinking about it, I reckon that's gone now as it's been a good few weeks since anyone said it! ha! x

37 weeks with DC1 here, BABY BRAIN. It's embarrasingly bad now... My Dsis kindly informed me that it doesn't get any better, just evolves into toddler brain etc!
But the other things - I felt horrendous in 1st trimester, thought I was being a wimp and how would I ever cope with the 3rd trimester?!? Thought I'd look back at the early weeks and think it was easy pimps but it wasn't - I really don't miss only being able to keep down crackers and satsumas. I was more tired then than I am now and I'm now on maternity so can nap! I still have random crying episodes and am a little grumpy but not horrendous. The farting and burping still also here - but hey, DH does it, so can I. Heartburn is worse but my back is better than it was in 2nd trimester because baby has dropped. I also don't have the horrible stressing out about if baby's still there because I can feel (and see) it move (had MC before so was really stressed about another). So I can honestly say it can get better! Don't give up hope!

I just didn't know all these things were 'side effects' to making a person! And that's what I remember. Thanks ladies

Hi Em, it's a crazy ride and nothing can prepare you for what you experience, partly because no 2 pregnancies are the same! I thought I knew what to expect, I'd read a lot, I'm fairly down-to-earth, but some things still came as a shock. But hey, it's not all bad, and it'll be worth it in the end :)

The first 13 weeks are always the worst for me. I looked and felt like death. Felt like I had the world's worst hangover for three months.

I did feel much better in the second trimester both times. The first time I felt crap again by the third trimester but the second time I felt my best in the third trimester.

38 weeks here and lots of unpleasant side effects (although thank goodness no longer the sickness of the first 18 weeks - definitely agree with PP who said it was like a permanent hangover - so unfair when you can't drink!):

Hormonal days where I cry over nothing.
Tiredness
Baby brain
waking up in a pool of my own dribble
Recurrent thrush
SPD / PGP
Heartburn
Swollen feet
Needing to wee all the time

Oh, and have gestational diabetes so can't even comfort eat!

All fun and games but will be so worth it in the end - I was even more miserable when pregnant with my DD and I have still come back for more (eventually)!

I'm 9 weeks & I just feel like I can't win where foods concerned. I feel so nauseous I don't want to eat but if I don't eat every 4 hours I throw up. I can't stand half the foods I used to like.

I am soooo gassy & bloated there was one night DH says I burped a little bit with every exhalation for the whole night.

My skin is super dry, I'm freezing all the time & shattered constantly.

And new for this week is the uncontrollable tears at almost any song I hear even if it's a happy one. Oh and reflux all day & all night.

I can't lie I'm secretly enjoying it all but I think that's only because we TTC for so long.

9 weeks was my lowest point, I'm now 18 weeks and they are worlds apart. At 9 weeks I had to wake in the night to eat dried crackers to stop myself being ill, I was knackered all the time, smells made me urge and all I wanted was tomato soup!!! At 18 weeks I have life in me again - I can stay up later, loads more energy, not too big so not tired etc, bit of painful back and bad bad heartburn but I'll take it! Smile It gets better I promise :-)

Felt like this too. All the things people don't tell you! I had NO. IDEA the first trimester would be so awful.

I had to eat every hour during the day. Savoury stuff, carbs. Sandwich, toad, crackers, crisps etc. I was in bed by 8.30pm with exhaustion and still struggled to get up. Bloated, gassy (had to forgo eggs......)

29+3 now and it DOES get better! I can eat what and when i llike (still more Savoury though) very little nausea. Tired yes but nite anything like the early days. Things improved from me around 15 weeks. I remember wondering how the hell i was supposed to cope for the rest of the pregnancy.

It's nice to know were all in the same boat or have been Wink

We were TTC for quite a while too, get the kinda liking it, I just wish I felt like me more often. Have had a good lat two days, very little nausea and slightly less tired but so thirsty! Out with one in with another lol.

Although realised today that I had miscounted my weeks and I'm 8 weeks and a day! Was a by gutted tbh, not so sure why. Think it's just cause I'm desperate to have 12 week scan and check all is ok.

You're one day ahead of me Em, so your due date must be new year's eve?

NoArmaniNoPunani Do you think you would mind if they came Christmas Eve/Day or New Years eve/day? I know it sounds selfish perhaps, but I'd like baby to not arrive on those days, for me and for them. Although them arriving safely is most important obviously.

I don't really mind what day just don't want it to be late! Christmas and New year are already going to be a write off anyway as I'll be massive and pissed off :)

Yes, this year we will be the same lol. But for future birthdays for baby. Mine being the 28th dec parties as a kid could be tricky, let alone those days.

I'm thinking we might have a family celebration on the actual birthday then a party in the summer for school friends. My birthday is in January and that's not a great time for a birthday either.
