Is my bump too small?!

Just that really - I'm concerned that my bump seems a lot smaller than other people's at 28+4. I'm quite big overall, big chest etc so maybe it looks smaller but I've started to get worried. MW didn't measure bump at 25 week appointment which has worried me more!

I keep reading that there are variations but surely when they measure there is one size that's normal?

I'm 34+4 and I also think my bump is very much on the small size.
I am by no means slim, and I have already gained 12 kgs (mostly on my breasts, buttocks and thighs...Hmm), but I just don't seem to have much of a bump. I know one shouldn't compare bump shapes and sizes, but I am definitely on the lower end of the spectrum.

My growth scan indicated that baby is a little smaller/lighter than average, but absolutely nothing to worry about.

Do you have your growth scan coming up?

So, in short, I think we should stop worrying - easier said than done!

I've had this with both my pregnancies and both babies were on the large size at the scans which is much more accurate anyway. I remember being on the bus the day before I had DS and I was chatting to someone who thought I was joking I was that pregnant! So I wouldn't worry but check with the midwife if you are concerned

I also have a small bump - same in my last pregnancy, and despite being told she was a small one after a growth scan she popped out exactly on time at 8lb 8oz and perfectly well! Same this time but I'm not worried, everyone carries differently Smile

I had a small bump with DS (first live born)

He was born weighing 9lb at 40 weeks.

It really has no baring on the size of baby!

DD was a much bigger bump, but was 8lb 2oz at 38 weeks.

You're probably fine. Taller or more Amazonian ladies seem to have more space inside to let the baby stretch out a bit!

I'm a shortarse and even my midwife said that there was clearly nowhere for the baby to go but out. I can feel my internal organs getting booted out of the way and I'm only in trimester two....

Measuring the bump is a crude way of determining size. If you put a five foot woman and a six foot woman at the same state side by side with identical weight babies, they'd look entirely different.

There are massive variations - I've had friends who looked barely pregnant at eight months :)

I really would try not to worry.

I had a small bump with my first, got lots of comments from people who didn't believe I was pregnant or as far along as I was. I had an 8lb 11 boy.

I'd only be concerned if your scan/measuring shows you to be.

My bump was tiny, I only just looked pregnant when I was overdue. I measured small too. When ds was born he was 7lb 3! The midwife said he was just sat at the back.

Btw she will probably measure you at 28 weeks.

It's amazing how tightly packed in these babies can be.

This is quite interesting to me because at 17 weeks nobody (except me and DH) would know I am pregnant unless I told them! I am quite tall at 5'7" and have always been slender.

I have had other women say they had bumps at 17 weeks but nobody seems concerned at my scans. I am having one per mth at the moment due to an anterior placenta and an uncooperative baby!

I think some women are just 'neater' than others.

Was your mum quite neat during her pregnancy/ies as well?

I had a tiny bump with both mine - measured 29cm at 40weeks, went for numerous growth scans with both. They were both born on their due dates, at just under and just over 7lb. I have a long body and babies can just sit back and not pop out.

I have the opposite. I'm Five Foot 3 and living in Germany where everyone seems to be at least 6 inches taller than me! So I feel very wide at the moment! But the baby is measuring normally.

I think your bump size is determined by your own shape I'm sure your baby is growing absolutely normally.

My bff (tall and very slim) had virtually no bump at all until the final weeks and even then it was tiny and nobody who didn't know could tell. Very embarrassing as I was five weeks behind her throughout and massive! Both of us had 7 pounders. She had a couple of extra scans in the last few weeks to check growth but they didn't show any concern at all.
