Everyone will say call triage at the sign of any change in movement and this is always the right thing to do!!!

BUT just for reassurance i have had two days over the past couple of weeks where she is really really busy and can't stop moving, really strong movements, then the next day she is normal! So it is MY pattern that she will get the odd day or two of increased activity. I am 26 weeks today so not far off from you! I would keep an eye on it for a few hours! Have you drank any caffeine or sugary things that could have set her/him off?

Mine did that a lot at that stage, now it still wriggles but not enough room to thrash. I asked the midwife and she said it was normal, even though it hurt a lot!

That's so funny you posted I have had baby kicking me so hard it's like being punched for the last few hours. It's going crazy! Am 33 weeks. Haven't even considered triage- why would I need to do that?

Elton Most people on here will say to call triage cause on the Count the Kicks website it says to call if there is ANY change in movement. But that is just being very cautious! :)

You should call the midwife with ANY change in movement, even more movement. Sudden excessive movement can be a sign of distress Sad

I had this and it was explained to me that there is a point in time when you can feel the baby moving and it still has plenty of space to move so it feels like it's going crazy. Then at some point, the baby becomes so big in relationship to the womb that it just doesn't have the space to thrash around. I have heard of women having ribs bruised and broken by babies thrashing around inside. I was was certainly pretty badly bruised by my son when I was pregnant with him.

I thought the NHS were very vocal in not supporting the count the kicks methodology?

Eta I was sure I read that on the main NHS website but can't find it now although it also says not necessary here:

www.uhsm.nhs.uk/maternity/Antenatal/Your%20Baby%27s%20Movements.pdf

As it causes unnecessary worry? Which it kind of is already to me Confused

It worried me too elton but i thought if i just told the OP to not worry as i get increased movement on some days then i would get told off for not telling her to call triage, so thought i would mention it as an option.

Everything is a bit ott nowadays and makes us worry about everything, i think you will know your body though and will know if something isn't 'right'

I hear you! I'm sure it's fine so but going to do anything. It's just such a surprise when you get a mega booting!

If you are concerned at any point then just call your midwife. They won't mind and will be able to tell you if you need to get checked out. 99% of the time these things are nothing, but just occasionally it might indicate something more serious.

I had this and I went to triage. I was totally fine and so was the little one.

Since then I have hd episodes of increased mivement and it does worry me but LO tends settle down. If he didn't I'd be away to triage again...

I should add I've also been to triage for decreased mivement Blush it is very stressful and very ott but I can't help it and triage have always been amazing.

Keep is posted

Have you eaten anything different? I had a belgian bun when pregnant with dd an she went absolutely mad. I ate other cakes all the time but I tried it again with a belgian bun a few days later and she did the same!
If you're worried about it give them a call though, better that than to sit there worrying!

Please go to triage. Violent, excessive movements can be a sign of distress. This happened to me in a previous pregnancy at 25 weeks. I'm sorry I don't want to scare you and I'm sure all is fine but please go and get checked out.

Thank you for your responses. I hadn't eaten anything different but it occurs to me that i am on new medication and could be affecting baby (they're steroids so I think I'm onto something!). I rang 111 and they told me to keep an eye and wait for him to calm down himself but if there are any further changes, go to hospital. The lady on the phone was lovely to be honest. he has been moving all morning the same as 'normal' now so I think maybe he just got a burst of energy!
