Am I just being sensitive?

I'm only 13 weeks but feel like I'm eating loads. I'm only eating when I feel hungry, which admittedly is often but trying to keep my snacks healthy. For example a typical day would be
cereal when I first get up for breakfast
Porridge when I get to work
Banana and a cereal bar mid morning
Sandwiches and crisps for lunch
Fruit and a yogurt for afternoon snacks
Crackers and cream cheese when I get home about 5ish
Then normal dinner normally something chicken based with rice and veg

I can't eat wheat so struggle for things to keep me full

My friend who is a guy, keeps making comments about how much I'm eating and that im going to put on loads of weight and I've stretched my stomach now so will eat more. I try to not to take it personally but am already worried about how much I'm having. Is this too much or am I being sensitive?

Ignore him. He knows nothing of what its like to be pregnant and hungry.

I can tell you that at that stage of pregnancy I was the same and within a week of giving birth I was only half a stone over my pre-pregnancy weight and that half a stone came off on its own over the next few months so its not a given that you will gain loads of weight long term.

Your body obviously needs a bit more at the moment but it will probably calm down. I found it really useful to keep a food diary when I was pregnant to keep a check on the amount of crap I was eating, but I never denied myself something to eat when I was hungry.

I'm 7 weeks and am STARVING constantly! I'm eating loads which is funny as with my first I couldn't stomach the thought of eating.

I've always been fairly slim and my sister has struggled with her weight and she was cackling and saying how much she hopes I get ginormous and fat and stay that way! Confused

It was (I think) light hearted joking but I have felt a bit sensitive since then myself and am feeling a bit paranoid so trying to trade out the junk for healthy snacks... They really aren't hitting the spot though!

Thanks ladies I'm so glad it's not just me I've never known hunger like it it's crazy. I am making sure I eat when I'm hungry and not just use it as an excuse to eat loads of rubbish

Your list above looks like it is mostly carbs which will fill you immediately but not long term (except for the porridge).

Can you get more protein into your regular meals? (& tell your male friend, who has never been and never will be pregnant, to keep his nose out!)

You are growing a new baby AND a new organ (placenta) so you need to take in the nutrients to produce these, plus there's extra blood circulating in your system as well that you need to generate.

Look your make friend straight in the eyes and very firmly telling him to stop commenting on what you eat.

It isn't funny.
It is not his business.
It is unbelievably rude.
It is distressing to you.

Say that and he'll stop. If he doesn't, he isn't your friend.

I had that in my first pregnancy- someone constantly in my ear at work making jokes about what I ate. I lost it one day and then he went around making wounded faces like I was the irrational one!!

I found in that pregnancy and in this, that that type of eating plateaus anyway so I wouldnt sweat it. Right now due to the FUCKING HEARTBURN!! I can only eat certain things and my appetite is very selective too. But I dont know if that is just me.

The worst bit is I have told him I'm very sensitive about and he just doesn't think before he opens his mouth. Glad I'm not alone on the eating front tho

What a prick. You should indicate to him that it's not acceptable to comment and make sure he's embarassed. I'm 11 weeks and I literally have to eat every hour or two or the nausea is unbearable, including at night. It's a nightmare. I can't fit much in in one go so eat half bowls or cereal mostly but because I'm eating constantly my mum keeps making comments when she comes around abiut how much I'm eating and how hard it will be to lose the weight. At first this upset me but I decided to just let it wash over me. I have no choice in the matter: I have to eat what i can when my body tells me I need to eat. Your diet sounds good to me. I'd add more fruit and cut out the crisps if you can but ultimately you know how much you need so don't let morons upset you. X

Agree with the others - he has no idea what it is like and neither does anyone else for that matter as each woman and pregnancy are different too. I'm having odd days where I can't stop eating (today in fact) and am allowing myself to eat whatever I like. I have gained 18lbs at 35 weeks so I'm not doing too badly.

Oh what an absolute twat. Totally unacceptable to comment on what someone else is eating at any time, regardless of pregnancy.

He's a prick, it's non of his business and tbh, what you're eating seems about average for me pre-pregnancy, and i was 5"7 and a healthy, fit, 11st! I eat less now thanks to acid sad face
Eat when you're hungry, and tell him to bugger off.

Bring in lots of really delicious things, home made if you have the time and share them out amongst everyone except for him. Grin

For his information .... your stomach is not stretching ... It gets no bigger due to pregnancy since the baby grows in the womb in the abdomen ... ! Your stomach will become squashed the bigger baby gets and will shift into a new position, meaning you will need to eat little and often as you are now ... grazing rather than full on meals ... so if he's going to lecture at least be sure he has his facts right :)

I also feel like I am eating all of the time too.
I was on weight watchers for 3.5 years until I became pregnant. Spent the last three years at goal as a gold member. I religiously tracked my food and now that I don't have to, Im not watching my portions. I am wary of the weight going on but it is only my belly growing. It is big for 18w but all of my regular sized clothes fit me otherwise (tops/legs of trouses not tight).
I am keeping off of the scales until the drs weigh me next.

Like a pp said try eating a bit more protein and some complex carbs. That should give you more bang for your nutritional buck and keep you feeling filter longer. Ignore the guy - you are growing a person!

pinkie I don't think the Dr will weigh you again, I think its only at booking in.

Everyone will tell you to stay off the scales during pregnancy but I couldn't help myself. Even though I ate like a horse initially I didn't gain anything until about halfway through, I even lost a bit but that was through gastroenteritis (which I do not recommend).

I personally think the most important thing is to stay fit and active if you can. Don't think that you have to spend the next few months sat in a chair wrapped in cotton wool. You don't.

What you do have to do is listen to your body. If its telling you to slow down then do. If its telling you it needs a snack then have one!
