Cervix feels odd? Poss TMI

I'm 22+6. Today I (here's the TMI bit) touched my cervix with my fingertip and it felt different - sort of loose and less dense, if that makes sense?

I've now managed to freak myself out about 'incompetent' and funnelling cervixes, and dilating too early - could this be a sign that something isn't right?

Everything I've read (courtesy of Dr Google) says incompetent cervixes have no physical symptoms, but also that they can be measured - surely that's done by reaching up and having a feel, so it must be noticeable?

Any experience/insight gratefully received! Next midwife appointment not booked for another two weeks, so want to know if it's worth getting it checked out in the meantime?

Why are you fiddling with your cervix when pregnant?

Checking for an incompetent cervix is done by scan, not by reaching up and feeling!

Your cervix has an internal os and an external os. It's quite possible that the external os can feel a bit looser due to hormone changes but that there's still length to the cervix.

Thanks Viva, that's useful to know - even if I do feel rather chastised with it!

No real experiences or incompetent or funneling cervix but it's okay to have a gentle feel of your cervix during pregnancy, during my first pregnancy I kept track of the changes to my cervix as I got further along, 35-38 weeks mostly. Your cervix will change a lot in shape, position and softness, it's probably perfectly normal. I've not tried in this pregnancy yet, only 28 weeks so not much to feel for yet, but probably will keep track later on. It really helps if you already know what your cervix feel like. My midwife helped me a lot in learning what to feel for the first time around.

As said above, an incompetent cervix is diagnosed through a scan rather than through internal examination.

Thanks for advice, just wanted to update as I went into maternity unit today with an unpleasant crampy feeling - they examined me & found I had a little bit of cervical entropy - apparently where some cells would normally be found inside the cervix are on the outside. Not dangerous (and not related to the cramps, which it seems are just normal growing pains!) but it could explain why things felt a little odd when I checked.
