MatB1 - too late?

Hmm getting nervous because the rule is that the MatB1 needs to be in before the end of the 15th week before the baby is due. However I would be 25 weeks exactly on 6th March. I had exams all of that week and am in a completely different city, so I booked the appointment for the following week 12th March. However I still don't have my MatB1, so am I leaving it too late? I wonder what happens if I don't get it in by the deadline, surely they still have to let me have paid maternity leave?

Really? That early? Im a sahm and always have been (not through choice, was young when had ds and git my qualifications after I had him, had 3 interviews and discoveredI was pg with dd, and im now pg with number 3) and ive always got my matb1 at 29 weeks, that seems to be the standard as far as I wss aware

You can get the matb1 from 20 weeks pregnant so I would ask for it earlier than 25 weeks

Sahm's don't need it for maternity pay though whereas if you work and want maternity pay you need to give it to your employer earlier than 29 weeks

Well that would explain it, I just presumed it would be the same but thinking about it now it seems reasonable that a working mum would need it earlier.

Ring your GP surgery and see if you can get it earlier? They should be able to do you one I think. I got mine this week (Thursday) and I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow.

I forgot to ask my mw at my 20 week appointment so phoned gp and they got one sorted for me & mw signed it for me when she was next there and I just had to collect it.

MatB1 do not need to be in that early so 29 weeks would be fine but as others have said if you are nervous about it just request your midwife issues it earlier.

My work documents stated that I had to hand mine in before I was 25 weeks. So I contacted my midwife and she had it waiting at reception for me to collect. Picked it up last week, next appointment 11th feb

We had go give written notice, then the Matb1 at least 4 weeks before we wanted smp to start. Obviously it depends on when these dates fall but check your work policy but also the law (there is a good gov site on it all) to see what you need to do

You only need to give details of when you want your maternity leave to start 15 weeks before your due date, your matb1 can be handed in later than that (the link says 21 days before the due date)

Sorry should say within 21 days of SMP start date

I checked with work and they were happy to have it a week later in line with my midwife appt. I had already told them informally.

Try calling your midwife.

I had similar issues about the date of my midwife appointment being later than when I needed to hand the Mat1B form into work. I rang her, explained that I needed the form earlier than the appointment, and she sorted the form out for me and left it at my GP reception for me to collect.

I completely forgot about my matB1 this time round and didn't end up handing it in to work til 28 weeks - there was no problem with this. I just rang my midwife and asked for one, she said to pop up to the maternity unit and she would fill one in for me.

It totally depends on how jobsworthy the people that require the form are. I handed mine in a few weeks late & they were fine about it.

Jaffa, it doesn't matter if they're a jobs worth, you only have to hand it in within 21 days you want smp to start - the 15 weeks before is the earliest.

Yes mine is the same. Need it in before the 15th week of due date. That defines the months the mat pay is calculated on. My workplace seems pretty strict on that according to the pregnancy workshop I attended last month
