moses basket mattress size

I purchased a clevamama foam mattress for a moses basket my mum gave me. The mattress is slightly smaller than the basket though - does that matter? also the mattress seems quite thin, would it be advisable to get something for underneath it too?

Don't put anything under the mattress as it will hamper the natural ventilation ... moses mattresses are pretty thin normally but remember baby will be in layers of clothes and the basket weave isn't particularly hard. With regards to being slightly too small I usually roll two small blankets and place these either side of baby to help keep him/her on their side for sleeping as is suggested ... so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
