Depends on your midwife and where you are. I'm in Central Scotland and they did listen for it at my 16 week appointment.

Thank you. I'm only 12 weeks but hubby works away. Was looking at doing overtime but he'd miss app. Don't think he'll be too bothered if it's just bloods and water sample etc but know he'd want to be there for heartbeat. I'll tell him they won't and if they do its a bonus (for me) xxx

I'm central scotland too and my midwife didn't check till after 20 weeks. The chance of not finding it and causing massive stress is too high so that's why they avoid it.

Mine listened at the 16wk appt (south east england)
Well, she offered and explained it might be tricky to find and I shouldn't panic if it took a while. It was lovely to hear it.

Mine did and found it but I think it is official policy to wait as it can be hard to find at 16 weeks and cause unnecessary worry.

Mine didn't. In fact I was rather bemused as to why they couldn't have just put what she did tell me in a letter. It was a bit of a waste of time.

I've googled it and does seem like here they don't listen to heartbeat. Blood pressure, water sample and bloods if needed. Shouldn't be in there long and hubby won't be missing much if he works that weekend xx

If your husband doesn't go with you and it turns out that you get a MW who does listen to the heartbeat, you could record it on your phone to show him (if your phone has the capability to record)

When I was pregnant, I needed to see a MW in between normal appointments so went to a MW drop in clinic. She offered to check the heartbeat, and when I said how disappointed DH would be to have missed it, she came up with the above suggestion. It's nice because I still have it saved :)

Hi Swanny, I had my 16 week appointment today. Midwife offered to listen in with a big warning that she might not find it for a while...we could hear it as soon as she made contact with my tummy!
I recorded it on iPhone for DH too and I came out really clearly.

You could always call your midwife and ask, then you can plan for DP to come along.

Thank you, bet that was best sound in the world. He's said he'll be home that weekend so hopefully they'll try and hear it.
So glad your app went well x

It was lovely. I've found this time after 12 week scan to be quite hard. No bump, no kicks, no proof that there's anything in there! But last night my bump appeared (literally overnight) and today I heard the heartbeat. Fingers crossed they listen for you too x

That's amazing, I'm only 12 weeks and have a bump but worrying myself crazy as things seem too good. My morning sickness has gone, boobs stopped hurting and I'm beginning to feel human again so I fully understand the feeling of hearing it. Will be a relief for me too. So happy for you x
