Pregnancy

Will the doctor be able to tell me how pregnant I am?

I've taken 2 clearblue digital tests and they both say pregnant 3+ weeks.
I can't quite believe it! DS1 is almost 11 months and I was exclusively breastfeeding until a couple of weeks ago. (I stopped so we could start TTC)

I came off the pill in October and haven't been using protection. Haven't been trying though as didn't think it was worth bothering until my periods came back which I assumed would be when I stopped breastfeeding. (We've been having sex maybe once a week)

I had one light period while I was still on the pill in October, and no period since then. That's been my only period since before my pregnancy.
I had period pains but no blood in November.

My question (finally!) is will the doctor be able to tell how pregnant I am? Would they scan me or will I have to wait ages to find out? They wouldn't be able to book me in for a 12 week scan though because God knows when I conceived?
Surely they wouldn't date it from my last period in October, I can't possibly be THAT pregnant.

Anyone any experience of having no idea when they conceived?

I had a good idea when I conceived but my periods were so irregular that it was no good using them to predict anything. When I explained that I was sent for a 'dating' scan a week or so after my first appointment to confirm dates. Sure that they will probably do the same.

I would say to them that you haven't had a period since October however you do not know how pregnant you are due to non-existent periods. I would imagine they'd book you in for a scan where they can date you properly so that you can get the correct care from a midwife.

Oh good- I hope they do offer a scan.
I've been having mild nausea since Christmas Day, so I wonder if I'm further along than I think. Not sure when morning sickness is meant to start...

Usually a MW can get a rough idea from feeling your belly - as after a certain point the uterus can be felt. But the best dating will be from a scan. It's possible that you did conceive early on but you won't know until you're checked! NHS may well assume that you conceived in Oct to begin with as most of their record keeping is calculated from LMP.

They will send you for an early dating scan to confirm, especially as you may be further along then you think and it's the most accurate way of checking. Congratulations!
