I'm 7 weeks and had a tiny bit of red yesterday (and some brandy butter with my Xmas pud)!

I was pg last Xmas and chose not to drink as it was early days. After the first tri I had one or two glasses of wine on a handful of occasions. That was right for me.

I'm 20 weeks. Both yesterday and today I has a little of everything going - bubbles, red, white and port.

More than 2 units both days gasp

I don't drink the rest of the time and it's christmas. 48 hours won't do any damage whatsoever

I'm sure one won't hurt, but I'm not having any, I just don't see the point. But I'm not a big drinker anyway so not really missing it. I'm 23 weeks.

I am 36 weeks and haven't drank anything. It prob wouldn't do any harm but I wouldn't take the risk. Its only 9 months!!

I'm only 9 weeks and visiting my family and not telling anyone until 12 weeks. Me being the wine-guru of the family - that is TRICKY!!! We have a big dinner out with more family and close friends tonight and whilst I don't want to drink (too soon in term and in general I decided not to throughout), I know I will have to pick the wines tonight and taste them when they are served to check their condition... Wondering if I can hide a little spittoon under the table? :-)))

I just wouldn't, it's 9 months out of your life, why even take the tiniest risk?

That said, people on MN are generally a lot more relaxed about taking all kinds of medications in pregnancy than I am.

Just because there is no evidence to prove a given substance is harmful, that can't really be taken as evidence that it is safe (The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).

I think we assume that we know all there is to know about the human body, but the reality is that there are an infinite number of things that we don't fully understand.

Unless the risk of not taking something outweighs that of taking it, I will be abstaining. For example, I am currently taking antibiotics, as my UTI presents a proven risk of miscarriage whereas the antibiotics do not. Therefore the benefit to my pregnant outweighs the risk.

Alcohol confers no benefit to a pregnant woman, but might present a risk. I can't see why anyone would risk their baby's health when there is no benefit to be had.

I'm 12 weeks and had a small glass of champagne on Christmas Day. I'm sure a small Baileys would be absolutely fine but personally I wouldn't have more than one or two, and be careful how much you put in your glass as home measures are usually much bigger than pub measures!

I always question whether I should or shouldn't do something with how much worry will I do after I've done it! If I'm going to stress out once it's done then there's really no point ... and if I drank then something happened I would only blame myself ... but to each their own.

I have, I had 2glasses of Bucks fiz and half pint of ale on xmas day, and then on Boxing Day I had another glass of bucks fiz.

I'm 35weeks. Having the odd glass of something here and there is not a problem!!

Oh I also had a baileys hot choc on xmas eve. It was delicious!

You definitely shouldn't for the first twelve weeks regardless.

If you can only have one unit (not one drink) what's the point? It's a risk that's just totally unnecessary.

I was pregnant over Xmas last year. I didnt drink or take any medication whilst pregnant.

personal choice I guess. for me there was no benefit to me in having one drink so it felt like a pointless risk.

Here is a leaflet that summarises all of the latest scientific evidence about drinking in pregnancy, including the possible effects of different amounts. Hope this helps.

Personally I have chosen to give up alcohol completely whilst pregnant. I don't think I would be able to enjoy drinking knowing that it could harm my baby. I'm actually surprised at how much fun I still have being around other people who are drinking whilst staying sober. It's only 9 months! (well slightly longer if breastfeeding :-/)
Saying that though, I know plenty of women who have drunk (in moderation) during pregnancy, after 12 weeks, and they have all had gorgeous, healthy babies.Smile has to be personal choice but I know that I would be too paranoid to enjoy something that could potentially harm my baby at the moment. Maybe if I get pregnant again in the future I will think diffeew, who knows Smile

kaybug you can drink in moderation while breastfeeding. Absolutely minuscule amounts get into your milk.

thanks Smile I'm sure I will let myself have a glass of wine or two when breast feeding just not the bottle or two I'd usually have Wink
