Brown discharge- any experiences please?

Hello,

Sorry for TMI but i've been having brown, stringy discharge since Tuesday. I had a scan on Wednesday and saw a heartbeat which was great. However, i can't stop worrying as i've been passing some brown clots as well. Has anyone experienced something similar? I thought i was 7+5 but got told i was just 7. I used the CBFM so have a fair idea of when i ovulated.

I have no idea what is causing it!

Thank you for any help in advance.

Had this off and on until about 20 weeks with both pgs. Two healthy babies. It's hard not to worry but not necessarily a bad sign!

Did you have an internal scan? I had bleeding after both my internal scans as I have a very sensitive cervix. I also bleed after intercourse. They usually say brown blood isn't anything to worry about.

Thank you for the replies. They are reassuring.

Yes i had an internal scan and sorry again for the over-share but there was loads of blood on the end when the sonographer had finished. She didn't look bothered by it and just said it's normal. I just wish i knew what was causing/had caused it.

I had brown bleeding at 8 weeks, had a scan at EPU and saw the correct sized baby with a heart beat :) ... came back more heavily (enough to fill a pad) at about 9-10 weeks (cant remember exactly). I left it to the 12 week scan as I had already had one emergency scan. All was well, I'm now 35 weeks with a little girl :) ... I believe brown blood is old blood (maybe from implant?) so not as much to worry about, but if you get pain and/or fresh red blood you need to go back! Congrats on your pregnancy :)

Thanks eastcost. Did they ever confirm why you were bleeding? My family have quite a strong history of miscarriage so I think I just always fear the worst.

I'm glad everything worked out for you and congrats on your little girl!

No they couldn't find a reason for it, there were no clots or anything... although they couldn't find my right overy on the scan? But I know my mum had something similar when she was pregnant with me! I think you can have a break through bleed around when your AF would have been due and sometimes implant blood can take a while to come out? If you saw a heart beat then that can only be a good thing :)

I'm in the exact same situation as you, Teakind. Had a scan on Thursday and saw a heartbeat, and going back on the 27th for another. I think I'm about 6.5 weeks. I had a miscarriage in August / September, and I have never in my life felt as anxious and afraid as I do in this pregnancy. It's horrible and I have so much sympathy for you with the brown bleeding. I honestly wish I had every grim pregnancy syndrome under the sun rather than this.

Hi Sian, so sorry to hear that you are having this worry too. Are you having a private scan on 27th or are the hospital seeing you again?

Has anyone given you an explanation for it? I'm sorry to hear you had a previous miscarriage as well and i totally understand how anxious you must feel.

I'm measuring a few days smaller than i should be but the sonographer didn't seem concerned (actually she was very unsympathetic and very short tempered really!). I might try and call my midwife on Monday.

Nope, no explanation given beyond "that happens sometimes." Having googled the hell out of it, that does seem to be all anyone knows about it in the whole world though! They said they thought I was a bit small for my dates too, but as my cycle was slightly out of whack it was definitely in the right ballpark. I'm going back to the hospital on the 27th, and basically just holding my breath until then. It's so stressful, the waiting! If they haven't offered you another scan I'd definitely call the midwife again and say how much the bleeding is worrying you.

Hi, an update in case anyone else comes across this thread. I had a rush of red blood on Sunday and again this morning with some clots. I rang the GP and EPAU who told me to just 'keep an eye on it'. I was far too worried to just sit on it so I arranged a private scan this morning and all seems to be well! Baby has grown and still has a strong heartbeat but they can't tell where the bleeding is coming from.

How are you doing Sian? I hope you are ok!

AH, Teakind, so glad to hear some good news! I stopped spotting yesterday and have noticed a bit of breast soreness and I THINK some nausea, so feeling cautiously positive. I will update on Saturday, and have a raft of questions to ask at that scan, but basically just crossing everything and hoping like nothing else for it to be okay.

Thanks Leanne! We were planning on keeping it a secret but have ended up having to tell close family as we've been so stressed.

Sian I'm really glad to hear you are feeling a bit better! It's a shame all of this is happening around Christmas but I'll be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for your scan on sat x

Great news from me today, too! Another healthy scan, baby has doubled in size since last one and we could hear the heartbeat! I think we're going to risk telling people now!
