'Any sign of baby yet?'

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and received a fb message along these lines from sil today!
Grrrr! I think she will know when it's out!

DuelingFanjo Mon 08-Dec-14 16:02:06

reply with 'oh yes, it came three weeks ago. Did we forget to tell you?' wink

ACardiganForCat Mon 08-Dec-14 16:05:14

Or maybe the baby will text me to let me know when it's coming?

Bluestocking Mon 08-Dec-14 16:06:40

Don't be grumpy, she's being nice and expressing an interest. I don't suppose she actually gives more than one and a half hoots about your baby but she knows you're circling the delivery room and she wants to express support.

ACardiganForCat Mon 08-Dec-14 16:10:10

I know she's just being nice but it's frustrating when people ask this when all I want is the baby out but it reminds me that so far there are NO signs of baby.

GobblersKnob Mon 08-Dec-14 16:20:03

Say, why yes there is, there's an arm in my pants, I'm sure the rest will follow shortly.

It such a stupid question, like the baby might be making an appearance but you in your pregnancy addled state just might have failed to notice, unless some helpful person issues a timely reminder.

Trunkisareshite Mon 08-Dec-14 16:40:40

Agree with Bluestocking she's just being nice and taking an interest. Not really a stupid question either is it? There are 'signs' that babies are on there way!

However at 39weeks pregnant you're allowed to be annoyed by most things I think!

Bluestocking Mon 08-Dec-14 16:44:21

And there are "signs" - I fondly remember the massive attack of diarrhoea followed by a classic Bloody Show! Not sure your SIL needs those sort of details though.

ACardiganForCat Mon 08-Dec-14 16:57:36

I had diarrhoea last week! Was not a sign! Also you can have cramps for weeks before the baby turns up. I will only take crowning as a sign.

JennyBlueWren Mon 08-Dec-14 18:27:37

"Oh yes, I saw baby the other day, bumped into her in the shops."

"No, how about you?" (to someone who isn't pregnant)

It's so infuriating. My cousin posted the same on my FB wall when I was two weeks over, so I had the joy of everyone else chiming in too. I really don't think it's 'just nice' - I think it's insensitive and often more about nosiness/wanting to be the first to know. Annoying. Being overdue is hard.

Saltedcaramel2014 Mon 08-Dec-14 18:34:47

Just realised you're not even due yet, well that's doubly silly then...

BiscuitsofYum Mon 08-Dec-14 18:37:50

Ooo you have the same due date as me grin

Everyones started asking me too, ive had to really stop myself from snapping. So my thoughts are with you x

ACardiganForCat Mon 08-Dec-14 18:56:26

Biscuits, any signs yet????

Vitalstatistix Mon 08-Dec-14 18:57:06

Text her back a long and detailed reply about mucus, including colour and texture. She won't ask again.

BiscuitsofYum Mon 08-Dec-14 19:02:14

ACardiganForCat DS is in there for the long run i think! I'll race you to see who goes first though!

I love that link. Update: nothing has happened. I ate some porridge so maybe that will help.

Just tell her that your bump is a pretty good sign of a baby and when the baby is born you will make an announcement to family and friends. I wouldn't discuss signs that can last for weeks when you're not even due yet!

weeblueberry Tue 09-Dec-14 14:00:21

If it's the first time someone asks I honestly don't mind. Assume they're asking if you're having BH or similar.

However last time one of my friends insisted on texting every few days to ask. To which I just replied 'no' with nothing else.

NancyRaygun Tue 09-Dec-14 18:13:34

Yes, god those awful people who insist on contacting you with messages expressing they are supporting you and excited for you during a very important time in your life.

Those utter, utter bastards. grin

Cobo Tue 09-Dec-14 18:56:13

She's just showing a polite interest, it's a way of asking how you are. Yes, it gets slightly repetitive to have to keep saying no to these kind of questions (I'm 41 weeks and have had a LOT of them) but I appreciate people taking an interest and asking. I would be upset if no one was contacting me to ask.

CocobearSqueeze Tue 09-Dec-14 19:06:39

I'm 37 weeks and have had 3 people text me asking this! Is baby here yet? Really??

SeasonsEatings Tue 09-Dec-14 19:20:08

I have a friend who is updating us via FB on her progress. (Induced yesterday, no baby yet) and I am surprised she is being so public.

Don't be angry with Sil but tell her that you will let her know privately and not on social media.

I went to a Ball at 36 weeks and couldn't find a bag to match beautiful maternity ball gown so left phone behind. When I got back to hotel 6 hours later my Facebook was full of messages as people hadn't been able to get hold of me. I was annoyed but at least people cared!!
