I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first and was diagnosed with OC last week. I am going to have bloods, scans and monitoring done at least once a week, and have been told to expect early induction around 37 weeks.
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and worrying about the risks of the condition to baby, and was just wondering if there was anyone out there who had suffered with OC who had any advice, experience to offer? TIA

Look up ICP support their Facebook page is good and offers info and support from others that have been through this (often more than once). I haven't but couple friends had ICP and found them very helpful.

I had OC when I was pregnant with DD (now 4) I took the tablets they gave me and it controlled it well enough that I was induced in week 39. It did mean that I had to go to labour ward and also wear the monitoring belt during labour which was a bit restrictive as it kept slipping. However DD was absolutely fine so hopefully this is a bit reassuring for you

Were u still able to have a fairly active labour?
My hospital have told me that with OC they induce at 37 weeks. Not sure if they would let me go until 39, though if baby is okay I think I would like to.

I had OC with ds1 and ds2. Ds1 will be 11 next week and it was pretty unheard of back then. I wasn't diagnosed until 36+5 when my mother dragged me back to out GP and stripped me off to show him where I had clawed off my skin with the itching and demand that they do something. I was induced the next day. With ds2 there was much more awareness and the monitoring once my LFTs started heading upwards was ruthless but that was still 8 years ago. I managed to avoid the induction with him both boys were absolutely fine. I still occasionally get itchy hands and feet during my period and I can't take certain contraceptives but I'm fine too. Glad you've had some more recent feedback and good luck I'm sure everything will be fine

I met with the consultant regarding induction at approx 37 weeks and that was when they decided my lfts were improved enough to leave it later.

Unlike Frusso I was left alone during labour but it was very quick after my waters broke so not sure what would have happened if it took longer. This was in Hampshire, if you're nearby feel free to pm me for more details

I'm 32 weeks today and have been diagnosed with OC this week. my consultant says I'll be induced at 37 weeks too. They've given me tablets that have REALLY helped. Here to keep you company!

I have to say the tablets haven't made much difference yet, but fingers crossed it will improve. Nice to have an OC buddy for company
My hospital haven't been great at giving me info so far, so going armed with a list of questions for my check up tomorrow

Had OCc with both my DD's. Both born healthy and perfect :)

DD2 was induced at 37 weeks but I had a good labour with just gas and air. She was slightly jaundiced, but fine within 10 days.

No I can't say I've had much info either. Going for another appointment on Tuesday. Tablets have taken me from I want to rip my skin off to just itchy all the time!

Well, once again I have left my hospital feeling like there is a serious lack of communication. I was told I would be having weekly monitoring, bloods and scans, starting today. Had bloods and monitoring. No scan. No record of scan being booked. Arrgh!!!!!

Then I get told that scan is 'usually fortnightly' so I suppose we'll be in touch soon.

Also 'oh, have you not had an appointment with the consultant yet to explain things?' No, DEFINITELY not, I feel like I have no clue what's going on So at least have that booked now, but it not for another 10 days or so.

Just feel like every time I go I get told something different, or get sent in for tests which then don't happen and get sent home (this has happened twice now Fed up

Sorry you're so fed up. It's a pain when no one communicates!

I had OC when I was pregnant with dd (1 at the end of this month) and was also sent for weekly blood tests and monitoring. I did have a scan but it was 1 or 2 weeks after I was diagnosed. I was induced at 37 weeks and as I ended up on the drip, I was attached to the monitor constantly so couldn't have much of an active birth Everything went well though and I quite enjoyed the birth.

I also had a scan to test my liver function a few weeks post-birth and everything came back normal.

I was just trying to think if I saw a consultant, and I remember I did but not until around 36 and a half weeks when they decided to book my induction in. So you may see one when they decide it's time to induce. She went through what would happen on the day and my partner asked her a few questions. She also went through what had come back on my blood test and explained why they had decided to book my induction so early.

Sorry my post a bit all over the place! It's quite fresh in my mind though if you have any specific questions

I haven't been told I'll be having extra scans just bloods/monitoring and induced at 37 weeks.

Thanks everyone for ur reassurance. Am hoping things get smoother from now on!
I am curious as to whether anyone was given vitamin k? one midwife mentioned it (for me now not just baby post birth) but then has not been mentioned since.

hiya just to update it was a regular appointment blood pressure listen to baby heartbeat feel stomach etc. I'm being seen weekly by consultant and got a growth scan booked in for next week. Still taking medication and just carry on until birth x

Had OC twice, in 2000 (diagnosed late, 'it's very rare, no one ever has it, but well test you for it, if you insist' etc etc), diagnosed at 36 weeks, kept in hospital and induced as LFTs were through the roof. Induced at 36 +6, managed labour, epidural, and then ventouse as baby getting distressed. Baby all fine once born. Liver scan and bloods afterwards to check everything returning to normal.

Second time 2007... Treatment very much better, tablets given (urso? Something or other) diagnosed at 27 weeks, twice weekly monitoring, growth scans at 32 and 34 weeks, bloods twice weekly, named OC midwife who I could phone anytime, Doppler scans of cord twice weekly from 34 weeks. Induced at 37 weeks, managed labour with epidural and monitoring. A baby born without help, all fine.

Key thing in second pregnancy was I asked to be referred before I got pregnant for advice. It meant I was in the system from before day one, and I think really helped me to feel reassured and them to keep an eye on me. I was under consultant care from 12 weeks. It was really comforting I found to know that everyone was on the lookout unlike the first time when I'd had to really push to be taken seriously.

Bloods monthly for 6 months after wards to check all LFTs back to normal. Advised not to take combined pill or HRT.

Get itchy sometimes before a period but no other problems.

AMMAN in south east Uk had blimmin' excellent care at local NHS hospital...PM for details of who and where, if you are local to me.

I had oc and was induced at 40 weeks. I was also told that if I got it in my second pg (I didn't) I may not be induced depending on lfts and baby. Not all hospitals induce early as risks to baby are not definite (for obv reasons it is difficult to research) and risk of early induction has to be weighed against (potentially minimal) risk of oc to baby (and of course mums comfort if you are very uncomfy). Don't panic and do do some research for yourself.

Yes I'm going to be induced at 37/38 weeks but I also have GD so I think it's combined that means I definitely won't go to 40 weeks. But won't be before 37 x
