Pregnancy

Really embarrassed to be asking this, I swear I'm not the poo troll!

I have name changed because I really don't want this to be linked to my normal name!

Basically, I'm really constipated, I've read its a common pregnancy symptom so does anyone have any immediate relief ideas?

I'm getting to be in so much pain, I don't know what to do, we are supposed to be having a lovely christmas shopping and decorating day tomorrow, and I don't want this to ruin it!

I know about water/fibre/exercise etc but what can I do to sort it now?! I'm so sorry for asking this Blush

Try putting your feet up on a step stool. Might help.

I meant when you're going, not all the time Grin. DONT strain, you'll have enough problems with piles later on. Also, have coffee and apple juice in the morning.

Thorntons sugar-free range will help you! Just don't eat too much of it

I believe you need glycerin suppositories. Seach for some old threads for advice. Many have 'been' there before!

Glycerin suppositories will sort you out. They're easily got from the chemist - get one up there (exhale whilst inserting) and lie on your side for 10 minutes. They soften the poo and it will slide out just lovely.

Polo sugar free mints if you eat a whole packet in one go

In fact anything sugar free has a laxative effect I think if you eat too many of them!

Any particular all bran? Does it have to be the original one, or will anyone do?

Prune juice. Drink a large glass every night. Works a treat.

Kiwi fruit worked for me. I think I ate 4 in one go...

Definitely any sugar free sweets. The sweeteners that replace the sugar have a laxative effect and a warning on the packet to prove it - surely more enjoyable than a suppository... Or a packet of dried apricots, or punnet of grapes. I'd steer clear of all bran, I find it sometimes has the opposite effect - not what you want.

Best of luck!!

Lactulose, definitely.

Suppository = only instant response I found. Grim but works. Lots of pregnant ladies been where you are ( including me!). Should be able to get off shelf at Asda I think..

agoodbook · 29/11/2014 21:19

Definitely lactulose - its otc and cheap !

Report
gamerchick · 29/11/2014 21:20

How long has it been?

Report
Bobsmyaunty · 29/11/2014 21:20

Lactulose and I second suppositories - it's honestly not as gross as you think! Plus if you've been constipated for a while your poo will be hard and dry so no matter how much you soften the stool at the back the front bit will be painful to pass if you see what I mean!

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 29/11/2014 21:27

bobsmyaunty I think that's the problem I'm having..

Its been at least two days, I can't remember when I last went but only started struggling yesterday morning.

I can't bear the thought of something up my bum Blush you'd think after one birth I'd be ok by now, but it never hurt this much until after I gave birth last time!

If DP can get Lactulose or sugar free sweets, how long do you reckon it'll take until its sorted?!

I've not tried lactulose so I'm sure other ladies will be much more helpful but this link says it could take 48 hours: www.patient.co.uk/medicine/lactulose-for-constipation-lactugal

The sugar free sweets or apricots (eat the whole packet!) normally work in about an hour for me!

Report
browneyedgirly · 29/11/2014 21:37

Whole packet of apricots, that is. I've never eaten a whole packet of sugar free sweets in one go.
