I've been struggling with pgp since 16 weeks. The physio, osteopath and GP can't do anything more. I'm in so much pain despite treatment, belt, crutches, knee brace. I have the pregnancy pillow, memory foam bed topper etc. I only don't hurt when I'm literally flat on my back. I went to my nephews birthday party this weekend and was on all fours nearly crying in pain and had to leave very early. I can't cook, walk my dogs, knit, sit up, drive etc. I am sleeping badly and I so miss walking with my husband etc. I could just cry. In fact I quite often do. I can't take 11+ more weeks of this.

Sending you sympathy!! Sorry I can't take the pain away.

I think you need to see a consultant to sort out a delivery plan - surely you could knock a couple if weeks off the 11+ you've got left. I know it isn't much help, but it would be a start.

oh I'm so sorry you are suffering so badly.

I had pgp but not as bad, you have my sympathy.

Have you considered a C-section? with your history of this debilitating condition I think the best bet would be to have one at 37 weeks.
I would assume this is not what you might want, but it would be a good way to avoid even more pain in the very last month as babies can grow a lot in the last few weeks putting even more stress on ligaments.

my osteopath suggested to lie on my back and put legs on a chair or the sofa so your back and thigh are at a right angle, same with thighs and lower legs.

not sure what else to suggest, I hope someone wiser comes along

big hugsThanks

Must be excruciating, but you have clocked up 29 weeks and there is less time to go. Hope you can hang on in mostly flat on your back for the rest of the time, when you will be rewarded with your dear little baby. As JBW says above, I would love to take away the pain but feel for you in this situation. xx

I know it shouldn't be on my concern list but I'm so worried about work. I've taken some time off with this last week and I just don't know how I'm supposed to go back and function like this. I don't want to irritate everyone at work as I want to go back to this job after maternity leave. I don't think they 'get' how much pain I'm in since half the world gets pregnant and I seem to be 'making so much more fuss' than everyone else. (My words, not theirs!)

Am in PGP pain here too, although not as bad as you it seems - yours sounds truly debilitating Flowers , but what's really helping is painkillers at night allowing me to sleep. Could you ask your GP what you can take to at least get you some respite? Also get phyiso asap. Another thing really helping me is spending hours in the bath, floating about with no pressure on my pelvis. I'd sleep in the bath if i could right now!

You poor thing... I had PGP which thankfully got better with Physio, belt etc but my obstetrician said they'd induce at 37/38 weeks if it hadn't improved & I'd be hospitalised earlier if needs be. The other thing that helped me was the baby dropping, and that could be relatively soon? I know it's no consolation really, but it's not necessarily 11 more weeks, it could be less. (Trying to give a little bit of hope at least here)

Lots of X posts with other helpful people, but is it worth trying another physio?

Pgp pain sucks, I've been there 3 times Hmm

The only thing I can recommend (actually two things), unfortunately will cost you.

  1. chiropractor
  2. private physio

Ideally do both. I did throughout my pregnancy (luckily private health insurance covered) and was far far better offer in this last pregnancy compared to the previous 2.

I relate completely. I'm 26, nearly 27weeks and I'm in a right state. My mom is sorting out wheelchair hire for me, so I can at least go out a bit (NHS can provide one in 3-4months!!!). I've tried NHS Physio (useless), private Physio (helped a little but she was reluctant to do much manual manipulation as I was "too far along" (this was the only Physio anywhere near me who was even willing to see me, whilst pregnant)). I've got an osteopath appointment on Tues and seriously hoping that will help.

If the osteopath does bring me serious relief I honestly don't know how I'm going to make it to the end of this pregnancy. I'm struggling more and more to do anything and looking after my toddler is soooo hard now its ridiculous.

Have you contacted the Pelvic Partnership? They say that things should improve after 2-3 sessions (if not the first) and if it doesnt help to try someone else, so maybe worth trying another osteopath.

Oh and just realised I never actually said I have PGP

Hi. I had this in my last pg and really suffered as I refused to take any painkillers. Then at 28 weeks I was hospitalised with another issue and was reassured it was ok to take paracetamol. It really made a difference. Even if as a pp said you just take at night to get rest as everything seems so much worse with no sleep. (I got more sleep with a newborn than I did with pgp Confused)

Oh you poor thing. I second a pp who suggested Chiro. I started seeing one as soon as I got pregnant this time and it has been a godsend.

In yhe meantime, have you tried ice on the very lowest part of your back? The base f your spine where it goes into your bum. It will not solve your pain but it may relieve some of the accompanying inflammation and swelling which is most likely causing you additional pain. You are unlikely to be aware of different types of pain but they are there.
