Does anyone else worry that their baby will be ahem, less than cute?

Completely shallow I know, and obviously healthy, happy so this is only intended to be light hearted.

But if you're totally honest has it crossed your mind?

I was a fat, bald baby, and I was looking at dps baby photos at the weekend and he had a huge head and mouth!

We're no oil paintings now but we don't scrub up too bad.

Ds wasn't the cutest of babies but he was gorgeous to me and is turning into a handsome little lad.

But honestly, has it crossed your mind?

I have nearly 19 week old DD who of course is most beautiful baby that has ever been :) my theory is that all parents have 'baby goggles', much like beer goggles, in that all parents think their babies are gorgeous, regardless of how cute they actually are; it's an evolutionary thing :)

My DS was a really funny looking baby when he was born- no baby goggles here! Of course he's always been gorgeous to me, but he was no oil painting when he first arrived, he looked like a scrunched up, older version of hurricane Higgins. He smoothed out after a few days!

Hah oh god FINALLY someone has said this aloud.
Yes I am terrified. Lol specially as I have seen some of the most beautiful babies on Facebook recently and I am like 'omg what if our baby has the worst features from my partner and I? '
But I have a theory.......Some of the 'plainest' looking babies have grown up to be the most beautiful teenagers/adults and some of the cutest babies don't suit growing older. That is what I am teltelling myself anyway I'd my baby is really ugly.....

But I'm sure they will be beautiful to me ha

I think you never notice if you have a slightly less aesthetically pleasing baby. I was a black eyed, fat, bald monstrosity of a baby and I panicked about DS being the same. But he's not. He's lush.

Someone I know announced 'oh my
God she's ugly!' On meeting her newborn- not everyone has goggles! Mine were all beautiful to me although looking back at the photos one was very squashed initially from a long labour!

My DD looked like her uncle which was disconcerting to say the least. Chances are she would look more like her dad if he was thinner.
I also worried about her being boss eyed. A lot of people around here seem to have wonky eyes.

Honestly your baby will be the cutest thing in your eyes...well once you get past the baby acne bit anyway ??

I don't generally find newborns cute so I'm going in expecting an ugly monkey and will be pleased with anything more.

I worry just as much about my judgement being shit and thinking (and telling people!) my baby is cute when actually they are monstrous!

I am assured my DD is gorgeous. But who would tell a mother their baby is ugly?!

But the most beautiful babies I knew are not particularly attractive 2 year olds.

I am so glad other people feel the same as me!!

Of course my baby to me will be the most beautiful baby on the planet..... But what if its a funny looking thing that people look at and recoil and make unconvincing cooing noises at???!!

I do have a friend who I personally thought had the funniest looking baby I'd ever seen he is now quite possibly the best looking 3 yr old I've ever seen he will be a heart breaker!!

Perhaps the ugly duckling story is true and we should take some encouragement from that!

We used to joke that DC1 would be doomed if she had my nose & DP's ears. As a newborn, she was just shrivelled and looked like a baby rat. From about a week old onwards she was the cutest baby in our NCT group, all of the baby groups we went to etc and, if someone complimented me on my baby, I struggled to think of what to say to them about their average looking baby. And then I came out of my PFB haze and realised that the reasons pictures didn't do justice to DC1 was that she was a pretty unattractive lump!
One of my friends did something at her NCT group where you had to right down one attribute of the other parent that you hoped your DC to be would inherit. My friend wrote down "his chin" and was mortified when they were read out as everyone else had written down things like "sense of humour", "generosity" etc!

I tend to go with a " you must be very proud" for scary monkey babies!

and none of mine were lookers.

I do have a theory though that it's best to be an "interesting" baby, and that they seem to grow into their faces..... however gorgeous photogenic model agency league babies seem to grow out of their looks very quickly.

I'm not worried but think my son will either be stunning or hideous. My husband and I are so different looking.

I was certain my daughter was the cutest thing that ever lived and gushed to everyone that wasn't I lucky I didn't get an ugly one?!?

I look back at photos of her now and her eyes were so huge in comparison to her head that she looks like a little bug. She grew Into them fairly quickly but in that time she wasn't the worlds prettiest baby Grin

Mine was cute when born but looked like the bastard child of Coco the clown and a smurf 6 weeks in. Poor bugger. He's grown into his looks fortunately and is as cute as a button

Hehe some of you have made me laugh.

I just look at mine and dps worst features and think what if? There's potential for a very funny looking baby.

Having said that have you ever noticed that some unattractive people can have the most beautiful children and vice versa?

I was a bit worried as I was a very hairy baby. Long black hair on my head, and a very furry all over, especially my back Blush it did fall out, honestly! Apparently when my parents took me to the pub to show me off, one of their friends told them they were very mean to have strapped a monkey into a buggy!Shock

I needn't have worried though. DD is of course the most beautiful baby ever. Wink

Ds2, poor sod, was the ugliest newborn I've ever seen. We nicknamed him Vigo after the bad guy in Ghostbusters 2 but he slept through from day one.
He's now 16m old and finally grown into his big nose/old man head.

Ds1 was a gorgeous baby (and a really photogenic 2 yr old), but was a nightmare sleeper.

We're due dc3 next month and I'd like an average looking, decent sleeper. Worst case scenario we have a dd and she has any of dh features.

Dd1 wasn't the bonniest - understatement of the year.
Dd2 the cutest baby on the planet
Ds1 - big head but smiley.
My sis wins for the ugliest baby. Her dc2. Think baby acne, wispy ginger hair, big nose and the whingiest baby ever! Now 6 foot 2, built like a barn door and gorgeous!

Ours looked like Goyle from Harry Potter for the first 2 weeks. He was still the cutest baby on earth.....

Oooooh yes I did worry so much about this while pregnant (I was no looker as a baby Grin ) . For some reason I shared my concerns with DP who laughed with disbelief at how shallow and silly I was being.... Glad to see other MNers feel the same!

As it happens both our kids are heartbreakingly gorgeous Wink so yes I was silly to worry about it after all Grin

My niece and nephew are completely gorgeous, photogenic etc. they look like children you'd use in a cutesy advert. I'm pregnant with my first and me and my husband are both Faye haired with teeny eyelashes and big conks. The 12 and 20 week scan showed a big conked baby. I will adore my baby girl regardless of and because of her snout but it has crossed my mind that she probably won't be as physically adorable as her cousins. I just will endeavour to give her non-looks-based self esteem. Grin
