I fell pregnant naturally aged 31 after being told aged 19 I wouldnt conceive naturally as I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Our wonderful son is almost 11 years old now.
2 years ago I lost quite some weight and gave up cigarettes and upped my exercise so am fit and healthy. My periods become regular for the first time in my life. Last weekend we found out I am 8 weeks pregnant. We are both 43 years of age and struggling to come to terms with it. Any older mums out there? Life has been calm and settled and I have my own business. Life just seems suddenly upside down. I always wanted another but 2 years ago I accepted it would never happen. BUT NOW I am in complete shock.......

Congratulations! I have pcos and was told the same as you when I was 19/20. When we conceived DS it was a complete surprise. Not surprised you're in shock, but once you get your head around it you'll be great.

answering the question - I'm an "older mum".
they actually write that on your notes "of advanced maternal age"

I was told it'd take a miracle for me to conceive, another to keep the baby in until viability, and a third for either of us to survive the whole thing.

I have PCOS. And I'm fat. And for other medical reasons (not PCOS) I wasn't eligible for any help with fertility, so basically I was told I'd never have children.

I have 2 children (4 year old, and 2 year old)
a third on the way.

And I'm 40.

Congratulations!

Congratulations on your bfp. A friend of a friend has pcos and was told she had 3% chance of conceiving and she got pregnant so little miracles do happen Smile
Medicalky, they class any woman over 35 as being an older mother so don't worry about it. Once you get over the shock the excitement will kick in. Have a happy&healthy pregnancy and enjoy it.
