Pregnancy spitting - can it become a habit?

Hello, I'm just a little worried about a new thing I have to do - spit.
It's discusting and I have to spit into a towel every 5-10 seconds. It's making my lips and around my lips sore.
I'm just wondering if this can become a habit? Like I'll carry on doing it if I don't need to.
I've tried swalling the spit but it makes me sick :(

Has anyone had this? How long did it last?

Thanks in advance xx

How revolting, I've never heard of this. Maybe you should ask your doctor.

I don't have this anywhere near as badly as you do but when I've brushed my teeth I'm spitting LOADS. For up to twenty minutes afterwards.

Is this something that's happening to you all day? If it's as often as you say and is lasting all day you need to speaking to the doctor I think...

My pillow was soaking every night. Total spit monster. It doesn't last forever!

I had this as one of the symptoms of hyperemisis.

It's horrible when you're feeling this way, but it does stop. I found that sucking on a boiled sweet helped.

How far along are you?

Still ongoing at 28 weeks, part of my hyperemesis which is just about under control with steroids. It's disgusting and so embarrassing, I have o take tissues everywhere and get through at least two boxes a day, have to sleep propped up or I feel like I'm drowning. I'm just so glad to be out of hospital and not vomiting blood and bile every 15 minutes though that it's the least of my worries. Only three months to go...

Also had this as an HG symptom. It started to decrease from about 20(?) weeks, as my HG improved. It's gone now (33 weeks), and has been for the last month or so. My sympathies, it's awful.

It happens to some women during pregnancy, op don't worry. Other women endure piles or all sorts of other uncomfortable symptoms, pregnancy can suck Grin

I found I could only bear to swallow my saliva with a swig of very cold fresh water.
Would that help?

I had horrible saliva overproduction, used to try to wipe away discretely with a tissue, but I found it really distressing, probably the worst pregnancy symptom. Stopped somewhere in the second trimester and didn't become a habit at all. Hope it clears up soon for you Thanks

Thankyou everyone, it's nice to know I'm not the only one. When I go out (which isn't a lot lately) I swallow the spit with sips of water so that does help although I feel I'm sipping constantly. I have been diagnosed with hyperemesis so I guess it's just another symptom. :( it's nice to know it doesn't turn into a habit too :) thankyou xx
