hello!
Just worried..i just got my TSH levels checked (since i have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism after a miscarriage at 7weeks last year) as a routine i get them checked every month since bfp. the level ranged betweel 1-2.5 hence no issues till date. however at 24weeks pregnant, the level raised from the last 2.92 at 20weeks to 4.92 at 24weeks.
my dr. won't be available till Wednesday, can anyone help? how does this affect preg? from what i knew, it was supposed to rise during early pregnancy, which this time it didn't:-( worried sick now.

Isn't there another doctor at your surgery who could advise whether to increase your thyroxine? 4 isn't terrible so you'll most likely be fine until Wednesday (I'm not a doctor, but I'm hypo and pregnant too!). Take it easy.

From what I remember (when I did my own research last year), by 24 weeks the baby can produce its own thyroxine, it is only really critical to keep your levels up in the first trimester. Obviously it still means you need to sort it. If it were me, I'd speak to a gp on the phone Monday, they may advice you to increase your dose. HTH. BTW, my tsh never elevated throughout the whole pregnancy and my dose was unchanged, so your shift may not even be pregnancy related. V good luck :-)

by 24 weeks, baby's own thyroid will be working, so I believe it's not high risk any more. You should still get the dose adjusted though. I'm hypo and my doc during my pregnancy was so useless that I always just told him what to prescribe me depending on the levels, (went from 125 to 150, then 175 and back to 150) so I would increase thyroxine dose myself, but I understand that not everybody is comfortable doing it.

thanks all of you. i went to the dr. she upped my dose. was really helpful though, she told me the baby's brain has developed by now which is the main thing. the rise in TSH is mainly due to the weight gain. since i did not gain any weight in the first four months (infact lost 3kgs by the third month and only about regained it by the end of the 4th month).
as the body's surface area increases the requirement increases she said. anyway. she will see me again four weeks from now again and said it might rise further as the weight goes up rapidly. but with constant monitoring it should be fine. phew..
