Over or under bump jeans?

We've just dug out my maternity clothes. My maternity jeans are underbump and I have worn them this afternoon. They keep trying to fall down and I remember them doing the same last time, though it was summer so I didn't wear them much. Have I got badly fitting ones or is this just what underbump jeans do as they don't have anything to hold onto?

Can anyone recommend good maternity jeans? I'm short and don't like skinny jeans as I am a size 16.

I never liked under bump trousers. Always bought over bump.
Not sure who are the best around at the moment as I've not needed them for a couple of years.
The best ones I ever had were from mamas and papas but that was 5 years ago.
I did find that none of them fitted that well in the early months. Bump just wasn't big enough!

I prefer over bump as otherwise I feel like I'm going to flash my belly when I get bigger. I've got some from mothercare but to be honest they are not great. Got lovely black trousers in debenhams so their jeans might be worth a try

I've found that all proper maternity trousers end up an inch or two baggy in the crotch, which makes me want to hike them up the whole time. I gave up - I can still just get away with normal shorts done up with a hair bobble.

I found under the bump very uncomfortable, the babie definitely preferred over the bump... When I wore anything that would restrict around pubic area the baby would kick off :) quite literally

That's pretty much everyone voting for over. I'll get shopping. Thanks.

Actually I prefer under bump. I found over bump very umcomfortable with that extra flap of fabric. I think in the end it's your personal choice. I don't have a problem with them falling down.

I preferred over bump until last week (34 weeks) but now Ive outgrown the band and have bought underbump. New Look do nice jeans and trousers.

I prefer under too. I find both types fall down a bit but its harder to hoik the over bump ones back up with all the extra material! Have also found a bump band over the top helps keep them up, and make sure everything's covered!

Hated under. Second most exciting moment of my life (after baby) was when post partum I could put jeans with a waistband on that didn't look like I was carrying spanners in my arse (DP's description). Next time I'm gonna use braces.

I find under bump quite pointless even at 36 weeks- they fall down etc. I found also low wasted jeans I had anyway with an elastic and bump band gave the same effect.
On the other hand my over bumps have been worn almost constantly.

Tbh I have also bought trousers with a stretchy waist (harem style) in bigger sizes and used them as under bumps. Provided the elastic is firm enough but not too tight (I found 2 sizes up perfect) they stay up fine! Better than purpose designed! Next and Primark sell them.

I live in my H&M overbump jeans- so comfy. They are a great cut (straight leg) and even though I hadn't bought normal jeans from H&M since my teenage years, the maternity range is fantastic - even for size 16.

Overbump. Try jojos maternity jeggings. Under bump trousers are the work of the devil !

Leggings and tunics/dresses better. Get things you can wear to bf then you get long wear out of them.

Overbump. I only have 3 pairs (2 pairs of red herring jeans and a pair of pumpkin patch black work trousers) but I'd love to get the jojo jeggings and cord trousers.

I have a pair of underbump jeans which make me need a wee literally every 5 minutes and a pair of underbump pj bottoms which are just useless. Only time I wore them I ended up taking them off as they just slid down anyway.

Under every time for me, but I have HG and some days can barely stand a bra. Anything pressing on my stomach, no matter how gently, makes me feel grim.

Over. It covers up the gross protruding navel a little.

And later, when my bump was too massive for over-bump, I folded the fabric in half to make them sit under the bump.

Over. Under bump ones just ended up digging in and threatening to reveal my belly during the entire third trimester when I was really big.

I would also recommend H&M skinny over bumps - super comfy. I had to wean myself off continuing to wear them when the DC were about 3 months old!

Ugh I'd forgotten about having to do this. Some of mine just rolled down off the bump towards the end (not those H&M ones though!). Pregnancy is so glamourous.

I love my over bump and hoping they will work covering my tummy when feeding too

I have a great pair of Mamas & Papa overbump 'boyfriend' jeans. They're just straight legged and a bit slouchy, but very comfy! Been wearing them from about 12 weeks (28 weeks now). I'm a short size 16 too!

Marnie I am keeping my bump bands out for that purpose too, and might buy a cheap "boon tube" - someone said they wore one pulled up to under their bust for winter feeding, under a top, it kept them warm and hid their tum nicely and cheaper than nursing tops.

I prefer over, I have some Mothercare over bump jeans and wear them everyday. I have some asos under and they fall down constantly and drive me crazy. I find I look a bit fat in under as my bump sort of hangs over a bit whereas over gives a nicer shaped bump.
